A large cloud of smoke from a fire near Tecate, Mexico, billowed into parts of San Diego County Tuesday night.

Alfredo Escobedo, Baja California’s director of civil protection, said the fire spread in an unpopulated rural area south of Tecate near the mountain known as Cerro Bola, about 25 to 30 miles from the border.
