See part of this road in the lower left corner...

On another map, a zoom in:

San Juan de las Pilas search, near that road:

Motoged on 3-12-13:

We arrived in Mulege after riding from San Ignacio through San Juan de las Pilas (sp?) over two serious mountain passes (one which was several kilometers of cantaloupe and toaster -sized rocks presenting itself as a 45' slope/road) on bikes that were carrying lots of weight. It was probably the most difficult day of riding in hundreds of thousands of moto miles over the past 40 years !!!! It was the first time I truly bonked on a ride....out of shape, out of water, out of my zone THAT day.....

It sure was good to make it to Mulege that day.....sorry we weren't better guests....at least I wasn't....DT has way more cred in that department

TW on 3-8-13:

As of January 2013 San Juan de las Pilas can only be reached from the San Ignacio side via rancho El Sauzal. The route further upstream, coming from Mulege is not yet passable. We spent 1-2 hours attempting to get thru but found it just wasnt yet passable. We where assured a single track route would soon be cleared upstream from the ranch, but for now it is not a thru track, only a destination. That is due to hurricane Paul in late 2012, as well as the destructive hurricanes a few years ago.

Rumors: the local ranchers all told us the government was going to fix this route starting in March 2013 with some bulldozer work. I guess we will see.

Not sure now... I think Pescador says what I want to do is passable. I wonder if he was in a truck or on a bike.

Only bikes have gotten thru that has been reported. Have not heard if government has cleared it or not. I'm planning on a trip in October thru there if it's open.
