Don't leave fish to find fish...

DUH! We all know that, but do it anyway.....

When fishing off of SoCal, we coined a slight revision...........

Dont leave the fleet, to find the fleet.

This would apply anywhere when the fishing is slow and you cruise on over to see what all the interest is about. Maybe they're catching more than the nothing you've gotten, so far. It's usually easy to find the fleet off SoCal. Especially off the Huntington Flats during the sand bass spawn.

A boat or two is picking up a fish, here and there, but it's still SLOOOOOOW........

So, you set out on your own path, only to find.................NOTHING!!!

And so, you return and get maybe one or two that day, fishing with the fleet.

Hence, dont leave the fleet..................

We are a fleet of one, so..........never left

The same is true for trout fishing in the sierras.

Don't expect the lake over the ridge to have better trout fishing than the one you're on. We had a guys that was notorious for that. We all new that if you went fishing with him you came back with sore legs and few fish.

Like they say:
"Which is the best fly to use?"
"The one that's in the water".

I've always taken a lot of pride in finding my own fish having said that I've left the fleet many times to find my own only to return with my tail between my legs hours later

Nothing better than returning with a mess of fish when everyone else have the problems, they come up and ask where did you get them and I give them a El Pesador Grande smile and pointe out thar!.....atleast it worked on the wife and kids.
