Canadian Rockies MC tour

This year we decided to travel up the west coast and cross the Canadian Rockies. Weather was warmer than usual but brought no rains. I met 4 friends in Santa Rosa to start the group ride, and we split up in Reno at the end. I traveled 4,300 miles over the twelve days.

Thanks Diane for reminding me of Rock Creek, took a quick ride up to check it out for more serious photos in early fall.




No trip through Lee Vining without a meal at the Whoa Nelli Deli at the Mobile station, a great band played while eating a tasty meal with a local ale.

Had I not been with the group I would have tried to get together. I was impressed with your burg, by the way!

BEAUTIFUL --- they are great. Somehow that first one just really speaks to me. Rock Creek will await your return. What a fantastic trip and your photos show how much you enjoyed it and the five bikes look like real good friends.

Really sorry this time did not work for our paths to cross, but next time, amigo, we hope the timing works. --- Rock Creek and that race down the Red's Meadows road.

Really great journal and photos, Ken. I can't imagine riding over four thousand miles astride a moto, but it looks like fun.

Don't be afraid to order the ahi sashimi, it's one of my favorites on the menu. The braised shank is always good too!

One day we rode from Missoula to Boise via the Lolo Pass to Kooskia, and through McCall. Did we get close to your place?

No. Well, "close" is relative, I guess. If, when you headed south out of Missoula, you'd remained on Rte 93 you would have come down through North Fork, Salmon, Challis, Mackay, Arco, and points south (or west). One of those points south is our little town, Shoshone. A "crossroads to everywhere, a destination for few" says a town scribe.

Or, when leaving Challis, you could have taken Rte 75, a frequent route for bikers, south through Stanley, Ketchum, Hailey and on south (or west).

We just saw a couple of friends in Stanley on Thursday who are cycling across the state and on up to Missoula.

Moi? I'll stick to four wheels and a cargo area. That way, the evening c-cktail hour(s?) can be more diversified.

SJ. if you're addressing that to me, yes, but a wide 'area'. Sacajawea, according to the limited information about her early history, was born to the Lemhi Shoshone, up near present-day Salmon, Idaho. That's over 200 miles from us.
