Back in my younger days I used to fish marlin mostly out of
the East Cape area. There was a Skipper named Manuel
that I used to fish with. He was was pretty good and had a
number of tournament
wins. I beleive he was mentioned in Gene Kira's Sea of Cortez book, and may even be pictured.
I kept tabs on him when I quit fishing for the big ones.
For a while things were really looking good for him. It seems that after a slew of personal setbacks he ended up in La Paz catching
bait for the cruisers there that fished the big fish.
Sadly he passed away ,too soon a few years back.
I just recently heard tell that someone, perhaps a relative
errected some kind of monument to him at the marina in
La Paz. Does anyone know of this?

Manuel passed away at least 5years ago. He was a wonderful man that was a dear FREIND. There is a small memorial at marina palmira at the end of dock
2. I believe his son still fishes out of east cape.

Thank you. His brother tended bar at Rancho Buena Vista
for quite a while. Is his mother, Mela I believe, still living at her
rancho "Buenos Aires" across the arroyo beach front? One of the most extensive and green gardens I have seen in Baja.
Boy he really liked to
drive those winding east cape roads fast even when
driving a stake bed.
