building...building...building...building...does it ever stop?

shari - 7-24-2013 at 07:13 AM

I've come to realize that building is an addiction...at least when you do it yourselves. Each day brings new highs and lo's...yesterday, I was ecstatic that the sage green paint for the kitchen in the new suite was just what I wanted...but dismayed that the outside colour wasnt what it was supposed to be...ni modo...oh well...paint on young man!

the tile is perfecto and we are so thrilled with our new tile guy who actually cleans up after the job!

the benches and table on the deck are nearly done and ready for tiling tomorrow....check out the cool round blocks..more painting today (and every day it seems) I am painting all the inside so I cant complain about sloppy work of the painter...hahahaha.

ceiling wood all stained and varnished...check!

Juan's new curvaceous planter with abalone inlays is beautiful...cant wait to plant jasmine in it!

next up refinish the bed and a dresser and find a friggin door!!!
It's all coming together now and will be ready within a month....just in time for fishing season...ooops...it already started!

It all follows under the "10 year" plan. Everything. Maybe 10 more years.

Fun Shari, looks great and the jasmine will love it there.

building IS addictive

I want to hear more about the concrete table & benches. I was going to buy a set in Rosarito on my next trip, but maybe someone can make them here.

woody with a view - 7-24-2013 at 12:22 PM

first you build it, then you maintain it, then you fix it. it goes in cycles....

bledito - 7-24-2013 at 03:48 PM

i wonder if it would be possible to sand cast the tables and stools. dig a form in the sand.

Are they cast in place? And the curved blocks... what are they gonna be ?

shari - 7-24-2013 at 04:07 PM

it's cheaper to make the benches and then you can decide the length and width...just a few blocks, some rebar and pour the bench part. Juan found these really cool round blocks that make a great table base.

I can't wait to stay there!

bajacalifornian - 7-24-2013 at 05:47 PM

Yo tambien!

shari - 7-24-2013 at 06:04 PM

me three!

When we built the extra rooms onto the house, one was Juan's "rod room" so we could get all the fishing rods out of Sirena's bedrom and what is now the Dolphin Room was supposed to be my "office"..... until amigos insisted that the room was so spectacular, it really had to be a rental room...sheesh! The view was so beautiful that we decided to build a suite upstairs. I too look forward to going on holiday up there...hahahaha!

woody with a view - 7-24-2013 at 06:56 PM

Next time we drive down we are staying at your place! One of my regrets of the last trip!

Udo - 7-25-2013 at 04:57 PM

Can't believe the talents Juan has...do they ever end?

Is there anything he can't do?
P.S. the colors look just fine Shari.
