Anyone with current first hand experience with importing a pick up truck?

I know this has been covered before but with the ever changing rules or interpretation of the rules who might have the answers?

I have Residente Permanente status and would like to import a pick up for a number of reasons. The pick up would remain in Baja the majority of the time with occasional ferry trips to the mainland. I will have a camper on the back of the pick up when I travel in Baja and the mainland but the majority of the time it will be in Loreto used as an occasional every day car without the camper on the back. I might travel to the States every now and then but not to often.

Anyway, I am considering buying a 2006 pick up with the camper. It will have California plates and I would not like to register it and pay sales tax and registration in CA. Can anyone suggest someone they used and the approx. total charges? How does it work, I get the paperwork and bring it to Loreto and continue the process from there? I would like to use a company to do this so it can get done in 1 or 2 days.

Any guidance will be appreciated.

By the way, I am interested in a 2006 Ford F250 Super Duty XLT, Extended Cab, 6.0 Diesel Turbo, 4X4. (144,000 miles) I have various reports on it and if anyone has any feedback, good or bad, it will be appreciated.

Good luck and sorry I couldn't help with the actual question. I'm curious as well to see how it works, since we will likely start importing next year. Not sure if it helps, but my wife is a Mexican citizen, so maybe that will make it a little easier :?:

I did just what you are thinking of doing a couple months ago. I nationalized my pick-up in 3 days, leaving Loreto Sunday afternoon and getting back Tuesday evening. I used someone from Cd. Constitución that has been doing this for a long time and has the contacts in Tijuana. He is very trustworthy and we started the paperwork process around 9:00 am Monday morning and we pulled out of the Otay Mesa aduana lot by 5:00 pm with everything completed, paperwork in hand. U2U me if you want his contact info. He may be in TJ this summer working but if he is not he can take the truck and get it done or you can go with him. I got mexican plates and registration the next week here in Loreto. It cost around $1,200 USD plus gas.

It is a 2006 Tacoma. I also nationalized a 2005 Jeep at the same time.
