Doc rushes quickly to my camp and announces Jesus Flores is riding by Camp Gecko, on his burro!



I brought my copy of Erle Stanley Gardner's 1961 'Hidden Heart of Baja' in case of just such an encounter. Here Jesus autographs his full page photo from over 41 years ago!



Jesus Flores who has a secret (lost) mine, has an entire chapter in Gardner's book. In 2001, he was our guide searching for the lost mission (www.davidksbaja.com/van1). Both are still lost!

De nada... now aren't you glad there isn't a fee to post photos? Why would anyone bother if there was a charge... for adding photos to a thread? :rolleyes:

So maybe charging for the free advertising makes better sense to help support all of it. Don't blame you or anyone else for taking advantage of the free advertising as long as it is offered.

There is advertising here on Nomad, and it does pay Nomad to be here...

The banner ad from Baja Bound is what supports Nomad, as well as the Google ads if you click them for a look... not free at all.

I was there at Las Flores shortly after that picture was taken. I know it was after because I took that wooden structure from the side of the jail and used it for firewood back at camp. Also at that time the original forged steel doors were still in place. Not too long after that they were taken and some fake ones are there now in their place.
David, Jesus Flores was locally known as "Chuey", and a heck of a guide. Lived at a rancho up the Animas valley. Sadly he died about 8 years ago or so.

Thanks for the update... I suppose the secret mine location he wanted to sell to Erle Stanley Gardner also died with him?

When I hired him to be our guide, I asked if he prefered Chuey and he said he didn't (then). His ranch was Los Paredones... from my April, 2003 trip web page:




On Friday (4-18), using an old photo of the ruins I hope to 're-find',

Los Paredones at 28°36.70'/ 113°24.82'. Nobody's home!
