Watching the news and checking the Internet, I would not recommend crossing the boarder. Everyday there seems to be article after article and news broadcasts talking about the shootings,robberies and kidnappings that seems to happen daily.

Also, it seems that the police are also involved. Reports are describing how the police are shooting unarmed civilians without cause.

I have lived here for many years and I thought that crimes was reducing, but it seems that it is increasing and at a very fast rate.

So bottom line, If you are crossing the border be very careful and if you get pulled over by the police, stay in your car and just answer any questions asked and don't make any fast moves.

Yep, BIG cities are a magnet for nare-do-wells, and always have been. With all the 'give-a-way' programs lately, it is just going to get worse. Time to move to rural Utah!!!

Tooele, UT is a nice place. Plenty of services, close to SLC if you get the urge.

My daughter lives in Herriman, UT between SLC and Provo. Loves it!!!! Been there for years. Why can't crime in the US be addressed as a stand alone subject? Why always the comparison?
If Mexico is so crime free and safe, why can't that aspect of the equation be presented as an attribute unique to the region, Mexico, and quit relying on crime statistics in another country, the US, to glorify the lower numbers of a country of one third the population?
If Mexico is a sanctuary Nirvana, why not just say so? Everyone knows, without saying, that Phoenix, Arizona is a cesspool, but I'll say it anyway....just to illustrate my point; Phoenix is a cesspool.

One reason readily comes to mind why it can't be said with any degree of honesty, that Mexico is relatively free of crime , but I'll save that for another rant. :cool:

Whenever I read about negative news reporting in Mexico, part of me is really happy, Negative news means less cars, people etc. Then there is the flip side that more tourists mean more money and thriving business, more traffic, more crowded beaches, more ugly everything. Am curious would locals rather have floods of tourists with all the prosperity that comes with it (and the crap), or less tourists and less money?

Locals with business interests would welcome all of it, whereas those wanting a quiet, uncluttered life would probably be less thrilled with the crowds.
It must be noted that a sizeable percentage of the tourist traffic, along with the trail they leave behind, are Mexican nationals moving around more with their new-found middle class wealth.
That too will change once credit for cars and houses becomes readily available.

That always bugged me, Detriot, LA, whatever ill attempted
comparison makes absoutely nada sense. The typical US
tourist to Mex does that primarily for a vacation, they
CHOOSE to go. All the viloence reported in Mex over the
last 5-7 yrs. or so, is correct, while it may be over reported,
with Tourists rarely being a victim, those things do/did happen. Those on this board have a more intimate
knowledge ot Mex, the average Joe Gringo Tourist doesn't

hey, as long as you have one brake light, one headlight, and you can do the speed limit, then I-5, 15 and 25 run north/south. Even numbers run east/west like I-20, 40, 80.
