I was wandering the Valle de Guadalupe and headed down to the new Villas Maglén (all those freaking signs from Hwy. 3, jeez!) which is located in the
hills south of San Antonio de las Minas. Fancy-looking restaurant, and then the guy takes us to see the "villas". Very fancy, one bedroom townhouses.
One's got a jacuzzi, one's got a billiards table.
So, wanting to be polite, I asked how much they were charging per night.
"Diez mil pesos," said the guy.
EIGHT HUNDRED DOLLARS A NIGHT. I could rent a similarly-sized (but not as luxuriously appointed) apartment in Colonia Libertad in Tijuana for four
months for that price. I stayed for a week and a half in nice hotels in Jalisco for that price. He then pointed out that the one we were standing in
has an adjoining door down the hall to the other half of the building. You know, because $800 a night is such a good price that you'll put the kids in
the next unit over.
We wished him "buena suerte" and left laughing.
