Tijuana, Mexico vs Tokyo, Japan

Today.....5:00 PM PDT

Chula Vista, California vs Westport, Conn.

ESPN

http://www.littleleague.org/worldseries/schedule.htm

--------------------------------------

This could lead to a Chula Vista-Tijuana championship. That's BIG.
I hope the Padres are watching. They won't be doing anything else worthwhile.

bajacalifornian - 8-21-2013 at 01:06 PM

Think they'll show it at Rene's?

Jes kiddin. I know they cleaned up the place. :saint:

bajacalifornian - 8-21-2013 at 02:00 PM

Bajaboy - 8-21-2013 at 02:20 PM

My school is taking it to the rest of the US...GO EASTLAKE!

vgabndo - 8-21-2013 at 02:47 PM

This has become as freakish as Pro Basketball, these Little Leagers are six feet four and have beards. WTF? I saw it today in my Doctor's waiting room.

I should give them credit. At least in this WORLD series, other countries are allowed to participate.:lol:

SFandH - 8-21-2013 at 03:22 PM

Yeah, those TJ kids are bummed and the city could use some good press.

woody with a view - 8-21-2013 at 07:56 PM

chula vista goes on to saturday!

Bajaboy - 8-21-2013 at 08:11 PM

So cool to watch some of my students out there...they are really humble, all-around good kids. Go Eastlake Little League!

I finally figured that out, Ralph. I was confused.

Chula Vista looks good.

BajaNomad - 8-21-2013 at 10:12 PM

Saturday's games are for the USA National championship and the International championship. Single games. The Saturday winners play on Sunday in the LLWS
Championship game. Losers from Saturday play in the "third place" game on Sunday prior to the championship game.

Here (a PDF download) are the brackets leading to Sunday's championship game:

http://www.littleleague.org/worldseries/bracket/2013-LLBBWS-...

BTW... the Latin America team playing Mexico tomorrow is from Panama. Mexico beat the Panama team 13-0 this past Sunday in a 4-inning mercy-rule game.

4-2 Mexico, top 7th

BajaNomad - 8-22-2013 at 04:10 PM

"Currently in a weather delay with rain/lightning in the area"

Still 4-2 in the top of the 7th (1 out). Romero homered for Mexico, and the game was suspended during the at-bat of the next batter. 3-1 count.

rts551 - 8-22-2013 at 06:19 PM

Mexico is going on to play Japan (again) for the international title.

What was the final score after the weather delay? NFL took over on ESPN after the weather delay.

BajaNomad - 8-22-2013 at 07:13 PM

4-2 was the final.

Oh, thanks for the info... wow, that's great.

So, are we looking ahead at East Lake -vs- Mexico on Saturday now?

No. On Saturday, Eastlake LL (Chula Vista) will play the winner of tonight's game between Westport LL (Connecticut) and Eastlake LL (Sammamish, WA). Yes, there are two Eastlake LL's - both coming through regionals in San Bernardino, CA.

Mexico on Saturday will play Japan again.

Saturday's winners play on Sunday. If Chula Vista's Eastlake LL wins Saturday, and Tijuana Municipal LL wins Saturday, they will play each other on Sunday in the World Championship game.

Also, if they both lose on Saturday, they would also play each other on Sunday (in an earlier "third place" game).

Bob H - 8-22-2013 at 07:25 PM

Outstanding info... thank you sooo much !!

Eastlake will play the winner of tonight's game between NEast and NW.

The atmosphere around school has been electric as one might imagine. For each game, they have been showing it on a big screen. Cox Cable donated some things, the ASB has been selling nachos, hot dogs, etc. The community has really come out to support the team.

DianaT - 8-22-2013 at 08:46 PM

Look forward to seeing the games this weekend. Little League is so much fun to watch and as we are still property owners in Imperial Beach which is right next door to Chula Vista and Tijuana, we will be cheering for both teams!

bajacalifornian - 8-24-2013 at 09:31 AM

Mexico lost to Japan, 3-2 just now.

They'll play in the "3rd place" game tomorrow at 8am on ESPN (USA) against the loser of the CA v CT game that's just about to start (in 15 minutes).

rts551 - 8-24-2013 at 12:25 PM

too bad Mexico lost its last run on a runners error.

DianaT - 8-24-2013 at 12:35 PM

Really good game. The only thing I really dislike about Little League is it always seems like one kid takes the heat for a loss and it is never all about one kid or one play.

I feel so much for that young boy who made the mental error.

Right now, I love the "propaganda" they are playing --- good propaganda about trying to get parents out of the game. I love the young player yelling at his dad. So often parents ruin sports for the children.

DENNIS - 8-24-2013 at 12:42 PM

I didn't see the running error and I'm glad I didn't. I just hope San Diego news stations don't make an issue of it.
Like Chip Franklin likes to say, "One learns more from a loss than a win."

rts551 - 8-24-2013 at 12:42 PM

At 13 its to be expected. Mexico gave a good Japan team a great game.

I would tie the second statement quoted to the first one. Typically the only ones creating any heat in LL for the kids - are the parents (or, in this case, the adults).

There are many in LL that would tell you that the kids are rarely, if ever, a problem. The problems are usually all connected with the parents.

BTW... the boys from Chula Vista won 12-1 over Westport, CT. Chula Vista (Eastlake LL) will play the team from Japan tomorrow at 12p (PDT). Mexico will play Westport, CT earlier.

I agree that most of the time it is the parents, but sometimes not. And coaches are not exempt. Last year my oldest grandson had a terrible coach. My grandson had the misfortune of making the last out in the last game of the season. He hit the ball, but was thrown out at first.

I could not believe it when in front of the entire team and the coach, one of the other players blamed him and told him he should be a faster runner and if he had been faster, they would not have lost the game. Others joined in and the coach said nothing. We all heard it and of course, my grandson ended up in tears and almost did not play this year.

I don't think the league he plays with in Oceanside is actually Little League, but I have seen the same sort of things happen over the years when my boys played Little League. The team members take their lead from the coaches, and if the coaches are jerks, the boys will act like jerks.

While I enjoy watching the games, I think that the old sandlot baseball teams were the best as there were NO adults around. Because I agree, it is usually all about the adults.

The worst scene I ever saw was two fathers who were gambling over a soccer game --- the team members were 5 and 6 years old. One father didn't like a call and things escalated to pushing and then an agreement to go to the parking lot to "settle" the difference of opinions. It took several other parents to put a stop to the nonsense.

Go Chula Vista

IMHO coaches carry a HUGE responsibility for the entire organized sports experience. I remember my sports coaches from my schooldays better than any of my teachers.

How about the other Nomads out there? Remember your coaches? I bet you do.

[Edited on 8-24-2013 by SFandH]

Sometimes sandlot games need adult supervision

I'll never forget the day when I was 12yo and was playing sandlot baseball with a bunch of Irish kids in Butte, MT.

I failed to catch a pop-up that would have ended the game and let the team I was on win.

Three of my teammates jumped me and knocked me down and then 1 kid that was wearing work boots (which most of the Irish in Butte wore) kicked me in both eyes and blackened them to the extent that I couldn't open them for 2 days.

After that my (ex Marine) old man wanted me to go back and fight them but I was smarter then that so he kicked my a$$ for being a sissy.

OK, Sports fans. Noon today. Let's toss back a few in support of Chula Vista.
Then, we can toss back a few more for Tokyo.

Those kids from Tijuana played one heck of a game!

Now, it's time to watch the Chula Vista kids win the final. The bowling alley in Chula Vista will be packed with onlookers right now! Eastlake Tavern Bowl.

The kids from Japan are also amazing kids to watch.

Like Dennis said, these kids are all the best of the best in their age group.

I'll toss back a few in appreciation of Tokyo's victory. Their kids were great.
