Playas Tj, Sunday. Dang Nice. Or, for The Guy Looking at NW Mexico

bajacalifornian - 8-27-2013 at 09:28 AM

Great! Breakfast here. Across from the bull ring. Between Sr. Waffle (excellent) and the Italian food on the corner, just up from the malecon. Name's in the image.

Playas TJ. A healthy dose of Baja, very near to Southern California. It's Mexico!

I do not sense I'm in in Tijuana.

On the boardwalk.
While walking, good music and people sitting in bars & restaurants above, is a clue where you may choose to stop for a while. Step ways frequently lead up to the malecon from the boardwalk.

Brothers On The Other Side

The one tells you it's there,
The other, a better understanding.

Fortunemimer

A good dark beer.

There are many eateries to choose from. Try the ceviche bar north of the bull ring, nearer to the gym.

With a son living at the Playas, it'll be my home periodically.

Looks like a fun spot on sunny summer weekend day. Did you see many gringos? The beach on the other side of the fence looks empty.

looks like the younger petersen has done VERY well for himself! :wow:

The beach on the other side of the fence is, essentially, the mouth/estuary of the Tijuana River. (Between the fence and the buildings in the distance.)

My preference would be to swim/sunbath a little farther to the north than the river mouth.

Great photos. looks like a fun time!

bajacalifornian - 8-27-2013 at 10:38 AM

We were the only gringos . . .

For sure. if you ever get near the water there, go directly to the Health Department.

bajacalifornian - 8-27-2013 at 11:06 AM

Dennis, mi amigo. Why scary?

bajacalifornian - 8-27-2013 at 11:08 AM

I would prefer swimming in front of Coronado. Either Loreto's or San Diego's.

The river carries the raw sewage that the inadequate treatment plant in the same area misses.
Anyone eating a fish caught in that area is living on borrowed time.
Jeeezo....I gag thinking about it, and don't understand why they allow swimming in that area except that, I believe, the currents flow north. That may explain the scarceness of people on the north side beach.

I'd gag too. Fish we ate came from the market in Popotla.

"This" scary preceded fish and water conversation . . .

Until I knew where the fish came from, I'd avoid that market.

WTF??? If you eat fish from Vince's, Ortega's, Tampanco, either Splashes, La Fonda, La mision, Poco Cielo, or the dozens of other restaurants and taco stands between the fence and ensenada, where do you think this fish is coming from???? Is there a secret port I don't know about that only harvest's fish from pristine waters?:?:

Sure looks more inviting than this beach in China

sancho - 8-29-2013 at 11:13 AM

Anyone familiar with the collectivo Taxi routes in TJ?
I occasionaly walk across, might be worth a ride down
to Playas, I'm guessing it is 6 mi from the border?
I assume the collectivo would be the quickest, maybe
$3 dlls each way? Rode one yrs. back, it was a station
wagon of some kind
thanks for your time
