Grand Canyon Trip during Ivo

We had this trip planned before Ivo was born. We decided to go in spite of possible drama getting there. As it turned out no problems getting there or back. The effects of Ivo were felt though, as it rained 3 of the four days. Photo opportunities were rare. Nat Geo quality photos usually are taken when the visibility is 200+ miles, it was less than 100 when the clouds parted. Timing is everything when visiting the Grand Canyon.

We drove over to Cameron the second day and found some sun

This is a Hogan, traditional Navajo shelter, where the front door always faces to the east

The EZ up came in handy this trip. We set it up as our kitchen by putting it up over the picnic table.

On the last full day after lunch the skies parted and we planned sunset at the Desert View Tower.

You can see the haze in the photo, but I was more than happy just to see the canyon floor.

By the way, the south rim is full of Elk. Mule deer were also in our campground at sunrise on our last day.

You sure made the best use of the weather! Really nice. My 2nd favorite is the first one. I just like everything about it---color, weather, etc.

I said 2nd favorite because the silhouette one is OUTSTANDING.

Ummm, by the way... while there are a lot of elk on the south rim those are Mule Deer.

I love all the photos you take Ken!

We super lucked out when we visited the canyon a few years ago, as it was one of those 200 mile days! We had a blast taking the Grand Canyon Railroad to it from Williams, as well.
