okay am tired of the AZ tap dance to keep the car registered there. and yes, SC cheaper but raises some other issues that I don't want to get into.
where can I get current info, and what is the advantage of just doing the BC thing vs Mexico wide? thanks.

The online tag/registration is pretty straight forward and within a few keystrokes and a handy CC, it's a done deal.
I do this every year with a car and a motorcycle. The AZ DMV mails my new sticker to a Las Vegas NV mailing address where my son lives. When I am up
there....I just apply the new sticker and it's good to go for another year.
And being registered in Yuma county, I don't have the annual smog requirements.
If the smog check is your concern, do the South Dakota thing.....

Some places here are starting to ask for Smog too. Just something to look into.

Yeah, AZ MVD sucks. Not only is their acronym backwards, but I have to smog my car every two years. Even though it's an AWD and exempt from the
actual smog test because it can't be revved up on the dynamometer cylinders...
I' too am looking for a different "flag of convenience", but more like getting an address in Payson, AZ.

Can ONLY be done at the border through ADUANA SAT. A multi-day process. Best to use an agent ADUANAL. Make sure when done you do not have counterfeit
paperwork. Take it to an oficina de Aduana and have them double-check. Scams are huge on the mainland and HUNDREDS of cars have been seized by PFP
even though they had been given legal license plates.
Cars with nacional plates are WORTH MORE. A used 4X4 with nationalized plates can bring DOUBLE the price if it is a diesel pickup or Toyota. I.E. Six
thousand versus three thousand dollars. Mexicans love to turn new iron into chatarra by jumping from pothole to pothole and letting the engine oil
turn to sludge rather than change it. A used 4X4 in great shape will sell so fast on the mainland it'd make your head swim. So folks on the peninsula
who have a vehicle with national plates undoubtedly know three dozen friends or relatives living on the mainland who would stand on their head for a
chance to get it.
Check with Aduana for facts about importation and do not listen to rumors or opinions. Only Aduana has reliable facts as to how to go about importing
a vehicle and how much it is going to cost.
Triple check your VIN number on the vehicle and compare it to the VIN number listed on the pink slip. They must match exactly.
