Permanent residency

I'm ready to renew my FM3 again (and my sons) and canvassed 3 immigration specialists in Ensenada. One of them says"...are you retired? If so you can go to any Mexican Consulate with 6 months of bank statements and ask if you qualifies(sp) to get your permanent resident DO NOT SHOW THEM YOUR CURRENT FM3." Is that true?

Get an agent. You seem confused.

I'm not going to comment on what is or what isn't, but

When we applied back in January we were told they changed the rules and we did not have to:


Give them Financial info
Did not have to claim we are retired

We are Permenente Residentes

I would most definitely look around at several folks to clarify

There are many paths, one is a retired person one is as not retired. Both are fine.

The rules are published and translated if you care to read them, though that may not help you understand. If you want to change status (from FM3 to Residente Permanente) you can begin do so without any history at the consulate in your USA area if you qualify by income about 120k in the bank or about 3k/monthly income. If you qualify as an FM3 holder of a set number of porragas or (4) years then you can do so without income requirements at the immigration office in your mexican area. Try both or either that fits.

Just go into the immigration office early (they open at 9) they are very nice there and will help you and make things easy. Just make sure you don't wait till the visa expires. They will tell you all you need to know, and bring someone who speaks some Spanish if yours is non-existent. THey speak rudimentary English but are very willing to help.
