CODE and NORRA Course Maps Up

TMW - 9-13-2013 at 11:30 AM

CODE posted their map several days ago.
http://www.codeoffroad.com.mx/carrera5.html

The NORRA maps for the bikes and cars were posted today on their web site http://www.norra.com/

The CODE and NORRA bikes will start from the same location at KM35 before Ojos Negros. NORRA cars will go south from Ensenada then east to Trinidad then north on hwy3 to San Salvador at KM61 to join the race course.

Also CODE will run the east side of Laguna Salada and NORRA will run the west side.

The RECORD Off-Road race is the same day as CODE and NORRA in the Ojos Negros area to the east but no map has been posted. I'm told it will be the same as last year course. We'll see.

The rains have already caused changes. When I wrote the above I was looking at the original CODE map. They have a new one up that shows them running the west side of Laguna Salada, east side has water on it. I'm told they will run the rough section and NORRA will run the graded road.

It looks like they are going down El Mano, I did it back in April and it was first and second grear the whole way. I could not imagine racing down it. IMHO El Mano makes Simpsons look like the Compadre trail.

Is there a reason they are not going through Nuevo Junction and over the sumit to Laguna Salada ? I know there have been some land issues in this area.

Wow, what a crazy course! (I mean as in crazy-wild, not crazy-stupid)...

Not sure why they chose El Mono over the Summit. I haven't been over the Summit in 10 years and El Mono in 20 years but considering the type of course NORRA runs for older vehicles I'm guessing they think El Mono is better. It's basically all down hill where as the Summit is up and down and the up side can be pretty bad. Also NORRA will be going down it after CODE which may make it better. SCORE last ran El Mono in the 1997 Baja 1000 race. The scout crew is out this weekend running the NORRA course to check on the effects the rain has had and finalizing the GPS reading.

Thanks TW... I saw a big SCORE arrow painted on a rock coming down El Mano in 2003... I guess from the '97 race?

Actually they are building the final road book. That is pretty much the last effort.

Its becoming a struggle to find new routes. Then choose from the options and they have to do the ecology report which require another drive to take pics and write the descriptions. I suspect they will do it all this weekend.

CODE has one wacky finish to get the extra 50 miles to make it a 200 mile race. Should help the pits.
