In spring 2013 we took the ferry from Topo to La Paz, and encountered a 3 hour delay when offloading traffic was routed around the back of the port
through a very slow military checkpoint.
Of course, at the very end there was a guy spraying car tires with some mysterious stuff for 30 pesos - though he ignored trucks.
Is this delay still the case, or has it gotten shorter?
The loading in Topo went fairly fast, as the military did their check while vehicles were waiting.
Thanks,
Jay

Last November when we came back from Mazatlan on the ferry to LaPaz - it took us 3 hours to clear that military checkpoint.
It was the worst part of the whole trip.

Yeah, people arrive in early AM and are wanting to seize the day in La Paz or burn rubber out of there. Es Mexico!
Anyone been through more recently?

In March of 2012 we had high winds and bad seas coming across from Mazatlan to La Paz. Both our ferry and the one from Topolobambo took a long time
to cross and ended up getting into Pichilingue at the same time. Getting through the army checkpoint that year was just grueling. At least I was able
to sit in the truck with my husband. This year in March I breezed through the checkpoint on foot and then sat on the curb waiting for him to get
through with the truck for at least an hour and a half. Haven't been through since then but I don't expect things to be much different coming back
this coming March. On the other hand, landing in Mazatlan he has been waiting for me in the truck for an hour while I am delayed just trying to get
off the ferry. Expect the worse and hopefully you'll be pleasantly surprised.
