Any reccomendations on a pet-friendly holel/motel in Tecate?

Are you staying in Tecate on the trip down or just going to hang around there??

If you are staying there overnight and are trying to get an early start going south. we have been staying at the High Country Inn at I8 and the hwy 94 exit... remodeled and we can leave there and get to Tecate in about an hour for an early entry and exit headed south.
they have let us stay with the dog in the past...
just an option...

Thanks, we are in Colorado (Westcliffe) and just got a place in Mulege this last spring in the Oasis, so we are trying to do the trip in 3 nights instead of the 4 we have been doing, and looking for a 2nd night stop somewhere near Tecate. Heading back down in a couple of weeks......Thanks much for the suggestion....but I could not find a "High Country Inn" near that area with an internet search...when was the last time you were there??. Where in Colorado are you?....and Mulege???

this would be a really small world.. we are about a dozen miles north of Westcliffe at copper gulch and reed road... we also own a casita in the Orchard..
you must be friends with the Sandstoes also...

we try to do it in 3 nights also,,,, first Flagstaff, second el centro or this one last year then down to catavina or GN then on in... we probably will not leave for about 3 weeks...
The hotel at Boulevard may be closed now but I have their card and will look up their number...
We should talk before you leave... u2u me and I will send you our email and/or phone number... we are in Westcliffe about every week sometime..

I would not suggest Tecate at all. The hotels are not air-conditioned. If you are coming from the US you might want to stay in El Centro where there are excellent accomodations then make the hour drive extra through Tecate. It is very hot in Tecate during the day up until 3 am in the 90's and not very good accommodations at all. you would be better off staying in otay mesa, its' cheap and cool and then you could head south and take 2000 to tecate if you are trying to avoid the tolls and want to travel through the wine country.

About fourteen years ago I did an extensive check of hotels in Tecate and ended up shocked. Hotels that could not TOUCH a Motel 6 for quality were demanding sixty to seventy dollars a night! I was not impressed. Tecate is not inexpensive. Hell Mexicans were crossing the border to shop in the tiny TC Worthy supermarket right at the border. There is an inexpensive hotel one block south of the plaza and two blocks west of Mex 3 street heading toward Ensenada but I've a gut feeling this is a VERY basic hotel. Parking situation unknown.

Yes david they are very expensive and the one on the plaza is not air conditioned and a real hole in the wall, I was looking to stay there myself. Now the town of Tecate is nice, and I stay with a friend in a very nice place but to pay to stay there isn't worth it at least price wise.

OK I just called the Estancia Inn. Why I took an interest in this post is because I went there a few weeks back to get some soup and shared an Enchilada plate with my daughter and it was over $25 American dollars. First of all I asked and they do not allow pets. Yes it appears to be a very nice place so I can see why Dennis singled it out. I liked the looks of it too so that is why I went there to eat. They do have air-conditioning and the cheapest room there is $925 MXN which is about $80 a night and that is the weekend rate. I felt the food was way overpriced.

I didn't single it out....just gave Trip Adviser info on TKT. Arn't there other listings?

Down, Dennis, Down you were just barking on the other thread!! But I know your intentions are well placed, you just like to be informed of the specifics before you make a judgment (referring to the other thread). On this thread however, the link you quoted was specifically for the Estancia Inn. The other links were mostly in the surrounding areas like El Cajon, etc. One thing I will say though, is that to rent in tecate is extremely cheap a lot cheaper than Tijuana, and it is a nice little town by Mexican standards.

EIGHTY FOUR DOLLARS A NIGHT? Priced FIVE YEARS AGO? Hello, you folks are out of my league. Eighty-four dollars a night and you cannot drink the water out of the tap. It HAS TO BE those FIFTEEN DOLLAR AN HOUR WAGES for the help. the insane labor costs for construction, the permits. Oh! The very thought!

Yeah YOUR OWN GLASS. But the bidét works great. It wasn't SUPPOSED to be a bidét but it turned out that way...

Ain't it NICE in the winter when you spend near a hundred bucks for a sucker room and then awaken at 4AM and it's 35F in the room? It has A/C so don't worry be happy. This is double digit IQ travel at its finest...
