Our microwave/convection oven stopped microwaving and convectioning a few days ago.
I contacted GE tech support and received some generic fix-it instructions (unplug the unit, plug it back in and then just use the heating control and
do not use the timer).
We did all that - nada. GE then said that I had given them the wrong model number for the oven, that it was a nonexistent designation.
When I explained that it was a twenty-year-old appliance, all of a sudden GE stopped talking to me.
We found a tecnico in our nearby village and took the oven into him. He fixed it and the charge was twelve dollars.
That's a lot better than paying up to $900 for a replacement oven. DENNIS - 9-21-2013 at 09:22 AM

Nice story although it's a stretch [or, would that be a shrink] to think of Rosarito as a village.
Could Be Wrong

But I think Primo Tapia qualifies as a village.woody with a view - 9-21-2013 at 10:54 AM

Back in the day, '90 or so, was in Los Planes so/east
of La Paz, found a welder to make a rebar anchor for
a tin boat. Returned the next day to see this beautiful
piece of artwork, complete with the triangles at the
points to dig into the sand, the guy thought for a few
seconds, then said it would be x pesos, which came out
to $2.75 dlls, I think we gave him $10 dlls
