Is this great news, we all can read BBP message board again?

C205Driver - 9-25-2013 at 02:11 PM

. . .BP posts are stale regarding PSFO. . .

David K - 9-25-2013 at 02:27 PM

Not sure if it helps you, but Nomad member Pacifico usually has Punta San Francisquito news. I was there last summer, and took these photos. We were going to stay, but the brisk south wind and uninspiring staff at the cantina had us moving on for a nice camp at Bahia San Rafael.

Above two sign photos are at entrance to the bay/ cove of San Francisquito, two miles east of the resort.

Runway photo for pilots.

Another runway photo for the pilots.

. . .David. . .Flew down to BOLA & swam with the whale sharks about 3 or 4 Octobers ago, then flew down to PSFO & got stuck with 70MPH winds out of the North for 2 days ( Could not do anything / see the water from the palapas & sand in EVERYTHING ). . .Wind down to about 10+-MPH & went for a walk on the beach & came upon a mama turtle digging a hole & laying the eggs (1st time for me ) went & got Juan, Mingo & company & that is when the no driving on beach signs started. . . Also I have been unable to roust Juan on his Sat Fone. . .

dtbushpilot - 9-25-2013 at 04:42 PM

If I were headed to PSFO I would go prepared to find the place deserted, anything more than that would be a plus. Been going there for many years, last few years whoever was there didn't seem interested in anything other than sitting around. Not much left of PSFO of old unfortunately.....

C205Driver - 9-25-2013 at 06:14 PM

. . .Was there Oct 2011 & it was then, still, PSFO. . Still had a great experience. . .

Curt63 - 9-25-2013 at 08:01 PM

I was reluctantto chime as you wanted recent info. I was there in April and the "resort" did have one or 2 cabins available and was serving $$$ meals and $$beer. They are not very friendly folks.

From my observation, they hadnt rebuilt after the earthquake. They have cleaned up quite a bit.

At the Bahia, Memo and Beto have ice and fuel, but it aint cheap.

You basically have to haul in everything you need. The road was in somewhat bad shape, but we were in a Ford SVT Raptor and tore that road up'

. . .Beto have diesel??

Pescador - 9-26-2013 at 07:59 AM

We were there in August, but went in a larger boat so stayed in the bay and did not make it over to the palapas. I know they had some damage with the earthquake, but everything looked about normal.

C205Driver - 9-27-2013 at 06:51 AM

. . .Well, I am hoping they are open & have diesel as planning on a few nites there. . Headed South Monday. . .

dtbushpilot - 9-27-2013 at 07:02 AM

Have a safe trip, let us know what you find....

Pacifico - 9-27-2013 at 08:25 AM

They are open and have cold beer! Not sure about diesel. Beto might have diesel...

I saw your other post, but haven't had time to reply. As for the firewood, don't try to bring it in; they will send you back if they find it. Unless you hide it well.... There are plenty of places to buy some, just keep your eyes open for it along hwy 1. I have seen big piles of it south of Enseada.

The road south out of BOLA is in really bad shape! Use the El Arco route....

C205Driver - 9-27-2013 at 09:02 AM

Pacifico. . .Thanks for tip on Firewood; when were you last at PSFO for a reference? Do you have a phone number for PSFO??. . First stop on way down is Mikes Sky Ranch & then over to Gonzaga Bay before BOLA. .

David K - 9-27-2013 at 10:45 AM

In Baja, go prepared for any situation and have enough fuel to get to the next 'city' (Vizcaino or Guerrero Negro). If they are closed up, still have a good time because you won't be surprised. If they are open, more stuff you can spend money on... but Baja is all around you and free.

If the resort is closed or out, the port, then Rancho Escondido, then Piedra Blanca are the next 'tourist' facilities if you can't wait to get out to the highway and towns.

. . .Where & what is Rancho Escondido? Found Piedras Blanca. . .

Pacifico - 9-27-2013 at 01:32 PM

I was there last month. I don't have a phone number for them.

Have fun up at Mike's! His margaritas are awesome!

Make sure you have good tires ( and a spare or two) on your trailer! It wouldn't hurt to beef up your axle before your trip if you have the time. Easier to do in the states before the trip. Those dirt roads are hard on trailers!

Rancho Escondido is close to Rancho El Progreso.....

if you are a member.... ;^) For the record, mine has lapsed along with a few friends of mine. Sorry to hear from C205 that no new pireps on PSFO tho. In all my years there we'd just drop in and see what's up. If good we'd stay, if not move along. Sure wish for the good old days there but that would take an ownership change i think. El Barril might be a good alternate.

they still have much stuff at the non members pages.

C205Driver - 9-27-2013 at 02:26 PM

. . .Some of my friends are flying their planes down to PSFO & then to Mulege ( 10/20 - 10/25 )where we will meet; so looks like my route & timing is gonna change; also do not want to drive from BOLA to PSFO if it gonna be a hassle. . Probably head from BOLA over to Asuncion & Abrejos & Tortugas?? & then San Ignacio before continuing south to Mulege. . . And after that??????

David K - 9-27-2013 at 02:31 PM

So, after all this... you are not going to PSFO??? :o

Have a fun trip wherever you go! If you do go back via PSFO, a short sidetrip to Santa Gertrudis is worth the 11 mile graded road (off the good road north from Guillermo Prieto to PSFO).

C205Driver - 9-27-2013 at 02:34 PM

. . .NO, NO. . .Yes, gonna hit PSFO either after San Ignacio OR on way back up to Columbia, CA. . . Si, comprende, no????

David K - 9-27-2013 at 03:26 PM

OK, cool... when I read this in your reply: "also do not want to drive from BOLA to PSFO if it gonna be a hassle. . " I thought that you excluded it.

It is a long way in if you don't go on through to Bahia de los Angeles.... I don't think the road was any worse than a lot of graded roads... in Baja! You can't be in a hurry if you are towing...

If you want a look at the photos I took at Mission Santa Gertrudis last summer, let me know. I use the mission bells of Santa Gertrudis as our mission book's Facebook page header: http://facebook.com/oldmissions

HERE are the area maps, mileages added from my trips:

If northbound or south, the shortcut road to Vizcaino via Guillermo Prieto is quite popular to avoid El Arco (the section between Miraflores and Piedra Blanca of 12.3 to 12.8 miles in length was great but I did not use it last summer).
