Surf N Turf Moto Ride

BajaGeoff - 9-24-2013 at 04:37 PM

Last week Baja Bound Insurance sponsored a great trip south with Cameron Steele and the Desert Assassins crew on a moto ride called the Surf N Turf. The object: Ride motos, do some surfing and just plain relax and enjoy Baja. Along for the trip were former world champion surfer Sunny Garcia and four time world champion mountain biker Brian Lopes. Here are some photos from day one of the four day adventure:

We crossed the border at around 6:30AM and made our way south to San Quintin for lunch.

A few miles south of town the crew unloaded and got ready to ride. Sunny prepping his bike...

Day three our goal was to surf, ride motos, surf again and ride motos again. The surf was small but perfect for giving lessons, so Sunny took Jesse Jones (AZ), Brendan Fikes (TX) and Mac Marmon (AZ) out for a surf.

Cameron stoked to paddle out...

Back on the bikes in the afternoon...looking for waves!

Aw shucks you guys...I really don't want to take all the cred here for my multitude of sport and athletic skills....back to the sponsored ride with my homies

Group shot with the Solo Sports crew before leaving...

More iconic Baja imagery...

Cameron launching out of a wash...

Mike Bandfield playing in the dunes in San Quintin...

If you fall in the sand you get roosted. Don't fall in the sand!!!

Andy Bonin drawing lines in the sand...

Jardines in San Quintin...a very appropriate name...

The awards for the ride: Best Surf Performance, Live Like Ox award, Burro de Oro, Best Moto Performance.

Ride medic Dan Dodds got the impromptu "Bad Fairy" award for his outrageous costume on the second night.

Brian Lopes presents Jesse Jones with the Best Moto Performance award. He has only been riding dirt bikes for 7 months and rode really well!

Sunny presents Brendan Fikes with the Best Surf Performance for his uncanny surf skills as a beginner.

Cameron presents Fred Sobke with the Burro de Oro (Golden Donkey) award for most shenanigans on the trail. The vote was unanimous after Fred accidentally launched his bike 8 feet in the air out of a wash and it landed on Cameron's dirt bike!

Me presenting Mac Marmon with the Live Like Ox award. Mac showed poise beyond his years, rode amazing, got stoked on surfing and was always helping out on the trail.

Lots of smiles...

¡Viva Baja!

BajaGeoff - 9-25-2013 at 04:17 PM

Thanks everyone...glad you are enjoying the shots! I can't take credit for the photos though...they were taken by photographer Bryan Harrold. (http://bryanharroldphoto.com) He is really great to work with and the images speak for themselves!

Rides2Little - 9-26-2013 at 10:22 PM

Thanks for sharing the photos and captions. Sounds like an awesome trip. One of my riding buddies was on that ride. He is the one who looks like he is asleep next to Cameron in the first photo! My family and I happened to be down in that area too and tried to meet up with the crew at Jardines on Sunday but didn't wait quite long enough. We had eaten out on the patio and as we left we saw the long table they had set up for you guys in the restaurant as we were leaving.

The grounds at Jardines were great and very well taken care of. That was the first time I had been there but will be back for sure.

Looks like lots of fun. Bought myself another CRF450 this year. Wish I had down there in BAJA.
Not much of a desert rider but guess I could learn.
