Temp Importation

Just for your general knowledge here's my latest experience:

Well, this isn't strictly Baja but of interest to many of you nomads I think.

I stopped at the Customs/Imigration check about 25 miles east of Sonoyta Somora for my Temp. Import permit for my pickup. A bit of a line so took about a hour for the whole thing. I have a FM2 so didn't have to get a tourist visa here. With the FM2, my passport, drivers License and a Visa card, got the permit in about 10 min. The thing that surprised me was the permit expires on Sept 23, 2005 - around 320 days. I had always heard they were only for 180 days maximum. That date is the day my FM2 has to be renewed, so it appears they issue them for the length of time you can legaly be in Mex. Due to a family emergency, I returned 7 days later and kept the permit while checking out of the restricted area into the Frontera. A paper they gave me coming out, shows I have an additional 313 days before it expires. I was also told I can turn it in and have it cancelled in Mexicali if I don't have the opertunity to the mainland.

I certainly learn something new each day.
