Noticed the mentioned site contains the following sentence:

Impartial? maybe. I can easily understand the casual Tourist
to Mex being concerned over the Cartel Pub of 3-4 yrs.
back. I've thaught the chance of being a victim in Mex
has remained the same over the yrs

This is a really old Mexican black humor "joke".

If you live not just vacation in México, for any length of time, you'll come to realize that the gente only involve the cops when there is no other choice. A gunshot wound or bloody death for example. Or a rocket propelled grenade taking out a disco.

Mexicans themselves agree about TWO PERCENT of violent crimes are reported to the cops. A sparsely populated finger of land containing about two percent of the total population of Mexico has to be treated differently. Saying "Baja California has a very low rate of violent crime than the USA" is a hell of a lot different than "Mexico has a lower rate of violent crime than the USA"

The state police handle an overwhelming majority of ministerio publico cases dealing with violence. Wanna know what "la gente" says about la julia y los judiciales.

The first thing they let folks know is "What's In It For Us?"

I think i'll take my vacation in Chicago, especially a nice weekend stroll through a local neighborhood park......

I lived in Loreto Baja Sur from 168 to 2000, never in all my travels was I concerned about my Safety. Lived in Loreto 16 years full time with no Incidents.I felt saver there than I did while in Hollywood and South Central LA working as an Officer.

I know some things have changed as always but I never felt unsafe and took my Children there many times.

I do suggest that you learn some Spainish go down and meet the People. It is a Grand Place.

Yup lived in Liberal, Kansas, for 209 years. Them folks sayin' L.A. is dangerous must be nuts. Leave my windows open every night even in January. Just gotta be safe everywhere. Go lookin' for trouble your gonna find it for sure.

Sorry about that I had just takin a Big chaw of Copenhagen.

First time 1968 in my Cessna, had a Panga for 27 years, built Rancho sonrisa North of Loreto on the Beach, lived{the only americano in San Nicholas} for 4 years the left in 2000 after all the UGLY Americans and Canadians started moving in.

I did not completly feel safe while going through La on Hwy 5. Never was concerned while on the Road in Baja Sur. or any other place.

I love those diagrams. According to them, Canada has 6 times higher rate of assault than Mexico... Sure...

In Canada it would constitute an assault when a man attempts to perform ... er... his marital obligations, while the spouse is, for God knows what reasons, indisposed at the moment. The case makes it to trial, the guy gets prosecuted. No prison term usually, but a lot of pain totally unknown in "less civilized" parts of the world - restraining order, probation, anger management programs, hours of community work ... Everything is thoroughly documented, records are entered for future statistical studies...

Mexicans would probably laugh had they known...

I see that the UK is a dangerous place too, according to these data. But there is no US of A. Gee, how come? Oh, wait, I think I know - this is because the crime rate there is so high, higher than in Africa, so they couldn't fit in the scale

Skeet, you sad old gas bag. I remember 1996 through 2000 in San Nicolas, and you DAMNED SURE were not the only American there. I'm sure I met all the Americans, and I NEVER saw your lying butt. I don't remember any Canadians either. As for the Americans who came to San Nicolas' after '96, only one qualifies as really UGLY, and he still lives there and presumably is still a thief. Can you name him, Mr. San Nicolas expert, or is this all just more gas?

you can scream it from the rooftops that Mexico is a safe place to go, but many gringos are scared sh-less and won't drive down anymore.
leaves more space for us, but if you are depending on tourists Blanca, it must be hard to get them. It will improve over time, be patient.

I don't think it is, generally speaking. It's just like the U.S. One avoids certain sections there just like we avoid sections here.

My wife and I took ourselves on a self-drive safari in South Africa and Namibia a few years ago. Rented a 4X4 camper and headed north from Cape Town. We were out in the 'bush' for five weeks. Never once felt threatened—from humans nor wild critters. Statistics like those in that article can be selected to illustrate whatever bias the writer wants.
