Hola bajaguy,

a few years ago, i stayed at the old mill hotel and my neighbor had a very large dog in his room. they do have internet but you need to use it outside as the signal doesn't penetrate the brick walls.

now that the las pinas (sp) group took over the old mill restaurant, it is next to the old mill hotel and the food currently is very good. i was there last year.

may i ask why you do not want to stay at jardines ? first class rooms and personnel and their great restaurant withing walking distance. i'm sure you have your reason.

La Pinta/hotel Mision Santa Maria. they take dogs and you can walk on the beach. Food ok. Nothing fancy but the beach is great,k

I'll second that suggestion, though I didn't stay in a pet room.

Also, the Hotel Mision Santa Maria (formerly La Pinta and a few other versions, on the beach south of town) might work for you. I haven't personally been there since the ownership change, but reviews have given the restaurant a favorable rating.

Hotel Mission Santa Maria (ex-La Pinta San Quintin);
Hotel Mision Cataviña (ex-La Pinta Cataviña); and
El Molino Viejo
are all now owned by Dos Pinos.

A few nights ago at La Pinta Cataviña we were served a slice of a 6-inch tomato from their greenhouses. The hotel has been
painted and spruced up, now with higher prices/room, but still dog-friendly.

They began in 1974, just after the Transpeninsular Highway was completed to service the new travelers who may need accommodations in a region that was outside of normal tourist facilities.

El Presidente San Quintin > La Pinta > Desert Inn > Mision Santa Maria

El Presidente Cataviña/Santa Ines > La Pinta > Desert Inn > Mision Cataviña

There were also El Presidente hotels at the Eagle Monument (Paralelo 28º) and San Ignacio.

They were part of a service complex called a 'PARADOR' that included a gas station, trailer park with hookups, food service, a sunken floor indoor air conditioned rest area, showers and restrooms.

One additional parador (without a hotel) was located at the junction with a future highway to Bahia de los Angeles, called 'Parador Punta Prieta' (but the town of Punta Prieta was 8 miles south).

I'm with the rat as far as questioning your reasons for not wanting to stay at Jardines, other that the fact that you don't want to make a reservation in advance. It's our fave in the area.

That said, all the other options mentioned are good. Villas can be a bit noisy, however.

And, with respect to Marla's post, our experience was that the Catavina location merely maintained the prices that existed prior to Los Pino folk buying and upgrading it. They lowered the prices at the Santa Maria by San Quintin. Problem in Catavina is that it is off the grid and it costs money to maintain the electicity, which, by the way, has been operating 23 hours since the Los Pinos folks took over.

We are at Villas de San Quintin tonight because the restaurant at Jardines is closed on Monday. Very nice rooms. nice restaurant with great food. They do have pet rooms now available.

takes them a few days to get back to you with a confirmed room. I have stayed here a few times - clean, quiet and my dog loves the beach, food was very good May 2013.

That's the only time I look elsewhere. Unfortunately, we have found ourselves arriving in the San Quintin area late in the day on a Monday more than once.

That said, we love Esmeralda and Carlos' restaurant. But if I have just driven all day, I really want to be able to stay within short walking distance of my dinner. Villas works. As does Mision Santa Maria, where they did upgrade the food after the purchase by Los Pinos.

I have stayed at the Villa hotel.
Great accommodations, restaurant on site, (open at 6 a.m.)ROOM SERVICE, all parking visible from the registration desk and out of street view. Comfortable soft beds.

The last time we stayed there, in September of this year, the restaurant was not open for breakfast.

25 miles (1/2 hour) south of Motel Jardines/Mision Santa Maria Hotel... dare I say...

Baja Cactus Hotel :light: owned by a Baja Nomad who has been beyond helpful to Nomads in need and the finest rooms of any highway inn on either side of the border!








Under $50, you get: satellite tv (English and Spanish), phone in room can call anywhere from, 24 front desk, in room coffee maker, in room bottled water, pressure boosted showers, king pillow top mattress beds, dimming lights, fan, AC/Heat.

Located on the north entrance to town, between the Pemex and Mama Espinoza's. Large, enclosed parking area for RVs and trailers... security cameras. This is where the group stayed and the helicopter landed in the Rip to Cabo TV special.

Great Staff, decent food, nice rooms, QUIET, great beach for walking and big dirt parking lot with security in case one needs to walk the dog late at night.

There's no nicer place to stay in El Rosario than Cactus. On the other hand if you are looking for great food, some ambiance, you won't find that in El Rosario but in San Quintin. I think Villa San Quintin and Jardines (Old Mill is too far over a road that sucks big time), is nicer than Cactus so it's become no contest.

And I don't need to hear trucks coming down the grade all night or at the Pemex next door.

Santa Maria and Jardines have become our favorites. Both are quiet and have good food. Santa Maria has become more dog friendly but is becoming more popular. I got the last room there last Wednesday.

Stayed at Cactus in August because traveling by myself, food was not as important and I was willing to put up with the noise.. The shower head was so plugged it hardly worked..no one there to fix it and no other rooms available. (It also seems that dog only rooms may not really exist since a friend was sent up to the corner 3 bed loft/suite room with his dogs last month).

Dang, I knew we should not recommend the Santa Maria. Before getting a room was never a problem. :biggrin:

I feel your pain. Back in 2008 when I did my review of jardines here I never had a problem getting a room either.

That worked for us, stayed several times in the "pet friendly" wing with no problems. The rooms are the same as the others but have tile floors with no carpet. Clean and friendly, good parking. I did not try the web connection but the TV is fine.
