Bus question

Baja Bucko - 9-30-2013 at 12:47 PM

In late Oct. there is a possibility I will be leaving my truck either in San Ignacio or Loreto for a long muletrip and hauling my gear (saddle etc) and me by bus to SJdelC. My question is if I have 2 bulky bags (one w saddle &camp gear, other 1 month of personal supplies) will the bus people allow me to throw this in to their baggage compartment? Will there be an additional charge or? It has been over 30 yrs since I traveled By bus in Baja so trying to cover the bases.
Muchas Gracias!

The whole bottom of the bus is available for your stuff, should be no charge and no problem.

If Necessary, Smile...

Slip the driver a hundred pesos and he'll go blind for a few minutes during loading and unloading.

Each time I have taken the bus, there have been many people who have brought many bags with them. It shouldn't be an issue. Now, if you were trying to get the mules loaded in the baggage area...

Part of that compartment is reserved for the backup drivers bed on the long haul busses.

This is true! Most amazing to be standing outside the bus as everyone is getting off and see the relief driver roll out of a luggage compartment, but this is how they do it!

Hey Bucko . . . I'll be on the other side end of October but can put a helper with you and you can park at my home should you choose Loreto.

Also, seen many Mexican travelers that appear as if they are "relocating" wherever they're going.

Yeah, I've seen the relief driver and his girl friend come out of the compartment more than once.... lol

The newer buses look like they come right out of Hollywood.

The first time I saw a relief driver come out of the luggage compartment while I was waiting for my luggage, I almost screamed. I just can't imagine being closed in there, alone or with someone else.

I just got off the bus a few hours ago after a long ride from Ensenada to Vizcaino...make SURE you have earplugs...the movies were sooooo loud AND the driver had to crank up his tunes so he could hear them over the movie....sheesh
Happy Trails amiga

LOL!
I never noticed it till I was down in Guatamala last year.
I was standing at a taco stand when a bus rolled up, the driver got out opened the luggage door and the relief got out, then I looked down at the ground and noticed my taco laying there:lol:

In southern Mexico you know you in trouble when the bus stops, the driver opens the relief driver's door and the empties spill out.
