Government shutdown & border crossing

Chupacabra - 10-1-2013 at 10:08 AM

Does anyone know if the government shutdown will affect the CPB and the border crossing times?

tripledigitken - 10-1-2013 at 10:14 AM

Current wait at S.Y. 2 hrs.

DENNIS - 10-1-2013 at 10:27 AM

SY, according to the radio this AM, was normal...1.5 to 2 hours at 6:00.
If there's a way to make the public uncomfortable with all this nonsense, the administration will find it, only to put the blame on the opposition, and perhaps boost their own approval rating above the 10% mark.
In the future, be sure you pack a lunch and bring a pee bottle to the line.

DaliDali - 10-1-2013 at 10:36 AM

All federal law enforcement functions will continue to function as normal.

And, if that doesn't scare you, nothing will. :fire:

Is this in retribution to Congress putting a hold on Obamacare? I haven't been following too closely as I am busy emailing my daughter's algebra and science teachers haha.

Dennis, please. It was a simple question for which a yes or no answer would suffice, or an explanation of any changes, and maybe a monitoring of what is happening, but PLEASE do not turn this into one of those worthless circular political debates.

It will be good to know what is happening at the border, but any of the worthwhile information will be lost in the round robin.

Then again, it will probably happen anyway and you are just the first.

Diane,

The statement it was closed was an editorial I'd bet, should also take some of your wrath to be fair.

Well...OK. You're right......although it's difficult to be fair, balanced, understanding...even tolerant, with what looms ahead if nothing is quickly resolved. On the list of vulnerable items the guv will be doing is suspending VA Disability Payments when funds run dry, later in October......sooooo, if it gets to that point, perhaps I can count on you for a subsistence loan. ;)

Diane,

Not the original post. The response that said it was closed, which of course it isn't.

I deleted my dumb comment that it was closed.

Just like magic, it never existed. POOF

Mexitron - 10-1-2013 at 05:19 PM

Back to the topic at hand---the border will remain open and staffed however the Passport Agencies are closed...! As Dennis would say----really?:bounce:

Russ - 10-1-2013 at 06:13 PM

I just went through TJ 2 hours.
Does anyone else find themselves on the wrong side of the barrier and have to find your way around again?

Howard - 10-1-2013 at 06:22 PM

No federal budget?

I have a company that sells food to the prison systems in the States.

This will really tick some you off. I received a contract to deliver canned pineapples to a Federal prison. We received a call this morning that they cannot accept the delivery because they do not know when payment can go out.

The horror, the prisoners will have no pineapple slices to eat.
"Oh the humanity, This is the worst thing I've ever witnessed."

Now don't get on your high horses about prisoners eating well on the taxpayers dime as if they didn't eat well I would be like most of you, sitting around passing my judgement on the world through Baja Nomad.

Hopefully they will close the boarder this weekend and I will have to stay there for an extended amount of time, having to live on tacos and beer for several days. Maybe surf a little more too.
We all have are dreams

BajaRun - 10-1-2013 at 06:27 PM

I crossed at Tecate today at 8:30 am. 30 minute wait.

It's not the Pineapple slices they're being deprived of...it's the Piņa Coladas they won't be able to enjoy at Happy Hour.

Wait till the Human Rights activists hear about this. You'll be in deep doodoo, Howard.

BajaLuna - 10-1-2013 at 06:43 PM

WOW do you think all people who post opinions on BN sit around all day doing nothing? That's a broad assumption!

Personally I'm not concerned about the prisoners not eating pineapple, as long as they are fed something. But what about YOUR loss in time and money in the fight over the ACA in the wrong venue IE: shut-down?

Howard - 10-1-2013 at 06:54 PM

Baja Luna, I guess you did not see the smiley face with my comment.

BajaLuna - 10-1-2013 at 07:04 PM

Oh I saw it, but I took it as back-handed comment!
