Hello all. My name is Ross and I've been lurking on this site for a year or so and really appreciate all of the great information that is available here. I have been trying to get registered for the past few months but continued to get the message that the dailt registration total had been exceeded. Well i apparenty hit the sweet spot early thts morning and was able to get registered
I am a kayak fisherman and have made a few trips to Baja camping and fishing in the Cortez side. I have plans in the next year to take a few trips to the Pacific side, with the first trip being to Bahia Asuncion.
First question. There is a spot that I have seen on a couple maps just south of San Quintin where the highway skirts close to the Pacific called Campo Costa Rica. Can anyone comment on How acessable this spot is and if there is any camping spots available?
One more question. I'm headed down to Bahia Gonzaga next week. There is a spot just north of Willard Bay and Bahia Gonzaga, there is a campground called El Faro. I believe there is a lighthouse on the point there. Has anyone been there recently that can give some information on the camping situation there.
That's all for now and thanks for all of the great info available here

Welcome and we look forward to your trip reports!

As for your questions, I have only driven by the two places you as about : Campo Costa Rica (near El Socorro) and Campo El Faro (just north of Papa Fernandez').

good to see you here in the sandbox Rossman...what dedication it took to sign up eh! We look forward to you posts and of course seeing you here in Asuncion...the kayak fishing is excellent and the locals are always happy to dial you in and have another yak out with them!

El Faro is not really a campground, and most of the long term gringo renters have abandoned their houses, trailers, ect and just left.

The El Socorro area has baffled me more years. It would seem that having oceanfront locations would be a big draw. The same is true of the long time projected develpment out on the peninsula by the volcanoes. I'm guessing that for many weekenders, it's just too far of a drive. That, plus until just recently with the opening of a couple of major chain grocery stores in the San Quintin region, there was always the feeling that it was just too primitive. Just a guess.
