Actually he has stated that he is against that increase but he's also silent on the privatization of PEMEX that IMO is necessary to have capital for new drilling before Mexico runs out of oil in 5 years. In the meantime the government has been phasing out subsidized fuel prices on a monthly basis which has increased the PEMEX price per liter significantly which really affects the low income earners. For some reason the formula used for the increases varies with the fuel octane and under this price increase structure the Magna gas will cost more than the premium gas in December of 2013.

There is already an airport in Ensenada.

The link to the TJ airport would be wonderful.

The Pemex thing is very tricky because it requires a constitutional amendment, and recent polls still show that the majority of Mexicans are aginst it.

As for Colonet, that represents an enormous investment that would have to include dedicated rail lines to the US border. I just do not see how there will be funding for it, especially since the soon to be completed widening of the Panama Canal will take away a great deal of business from West Coast ports.

He's probably contemplating a presidential bid in the future and doesn't want to go public with an unpopular proposal. His efforts for the Casa Rosa would be stillborn.

Something else....he has plans for a new Otay Mesa freight crossing. Wouldn't that be a US project?

I think the article said something about expanding or building another more legitimate airport that could handle cargo in Ensenada. I can't tell you because the UT has now made the article "subscription only" and I can't view it. :(:(:(

There has been talk in MX media occasionally during the last few years about EVENTUALLY moving the Military airport in Ensenada up by Ojos Negros.

So there's two possibilities; 1. Expand the current MILITARY facility to a COMMERCIAL facility after the military leaves, or; 2. build the new airport by Ojos Negro which would also require a new highway from Ensenada.

I also think they need to handle Baja Norte and Baja Sur transportation better. Parts of highway 1 are treacherous for vehicles with inadequate shoulders.

Yes, many lives would be saved if they just widened the existing road another 6 feet. A little extra room for those moments where you space out and drift 6" from your lane and find yourself almost falling into a ravine.

I had a close call south of Guerrero in my youth. I took my eye off the road and found myself in oncoming traffic, over-corrected and flew off the elevated highway into the dirt. I was lucky it happened where it happened and that I didn't kill someone.

There was talk a while back when this subject first surfaced of building a passenger/commercial airport on the plateau east of the free road up behind El Tigre

Which part of the vehicle has shoulders? among the other inadequate parts.
