1968 Newspaper Report on Baja Sur Highway Progress

David K - 10-11-2013 at 03:33 PM

Just going through my boxes of Baja clippings...

In April, 1968 it was reported that the highway south from La Paz had reached San Jose del Cabo.

The other new road was completed north from La Paz to Villa Constitucion and west to Puerto San Carlos.

The road from Constitucion to Santa Rosalia was mentioned, [but pavement was still not applied until about 1972].

The complete Transpeninsular Highway was (then) estimated to be finished by 1974-1975 [it was officially opened on Dec. 1, 1973]. There were also more than 50 landing fields for pilots to use, with each hotel having its own strip...

Copley owned the San Diego Union/ Evening Tribune, and I see they own this one too. Not sure what town the Daily Gazette served?
