Is there an Octoberfest anywhere in Baja?

durrelllrobert - 10-13-2013 at 10:32 AM

I know that Pacifico has a beer garden in Mazatlan but can it compare to the original?

Are you sure it's still there? I've asked that question a hundred times here and never got an answer.
Of course, it wasn't as huge as the garden in the vid, but it was pretty big. probably a dozen Mariachi Bands playing at the same time independent of each other.
A frosty mug of Pacifico cost a half Peso, 4 US Cents, last time I was there.

Heineken in Munich's Oktoberfest would be sacrilege. Even if it were German beer (it's Dutch), it wouldn't be a beer from Munich. Try "Spaten, Paulaner, Hacker-Pschorr, Hofbraeu, etc" They're all good.

Octoberfest in Baja? Other than the six pack in the truck?? I've been to fests in Germany, craziest was a wine fest. They served the wine in what looked like pint pub glasses (1/3L?)...didn't take long. On the other hand, there are a lot of German descended folk in Mexico and a beer tradition.

I worked in Augsberg, Paulaner was favorite, with lots of local brews and some Czech beer. Farther North I liked the Pilz and the Kolsch in Bonn/Koln. The best was pulling off the road to an "Imbis" (snack) place to get a 1/2 liter bottle of cold local beer and a great sausage on a hot brochen with senf(mustard). You don't need restaurants with that set up!

EXACTAMENTO! One factoid that hasn't been mentioned; the beer in Mexico was designed by GERMAN 'Advisors' in their (several) revolutions, and the Oberstormfurers brought their hopps with them for comfort... the same as the French brought their vines to cultivate their wine. Ergo, EVERY DAY IS OCTOBERFEST MIT PACIFICO, TECATE, Y A LE GUSTO!!!

Same-same in Japan and China. They were 'discovered' (yeah, right) by the Dutch, and the brews followed. Tsing Tao (properly pronounced 'ching-dao' in Chinese) to this day imports 100% of ALL their hopps from Holland... local grains are used. And hence, Sapporo, Kirin, etc, etc, .......... Yee haw, another excuse for a party. Somebody call for fraulines and leiderhosen? Por que no? Ja Ja !!

Ah, although the French may have brought their vines, the factoid is that the Spanish first introduced grape vines into Mexico in the 16th century.......making Mexico the oldest wine producing country in the Americas.

Remember the welcome home surprise party I was going to have for Dennis that most Nomads thought was in bad taste so soon after he was sick? Well he seems to have recovered almost completely. What about the first annual Oktoberfest at Lomas? Since Bob started this thread, what do you think Bob?

Dutch and Deutsch are not the same thing. Tsingtao was founded by GERMAN settler in 1903, when the City of TsinTao was a German Colony leased to them by China; therefore the beer is of Deutsch origin not Dutch. But -- the beer is not the original anymore, anyway--no more "Reinheitsgebot" applies.

Did soju, soju with the gensing, etc, the snake one etc but was referencing the lager beer. Germans were on the peninsula as Lutherans and Catholics, acted as a buffer between the Koreans and the Japanese invaders, are still appreciated for it,..and influenced beer. Have not been back since 2011/2012 when I retired but went back and forth for about 27 years. The Olympics really changed the place.
