US meltdown impact on Mexico

unbob - 10-16-2013 at 08:54 AM

Anyone seeing evidence of impact to Mexican economy from the US govt debacle (aside from the peso's decline)?

NY Times says this: For Mexico, the risks of an American default are enormous. The government shutdown has already doubled wait times at some border crossings, slowing commerce with the United States, Mexico’s largest trading partner. The Mexican peso has fallen to a two-month low, and many business owners are anxious about what will come next.

Really? Wait times at border have doubled? OMG

according to my Liberal friends the Tea Party is responsible for the 5% increase of VAT in Baja, just like everything else

It may have affected cross-border commerce if there has been layoffs, but I haven't heard any grumbling down here.
