New Motel In Construction West Of Vizcaino?

It'd be a good location for a notell...

Two story, bright orange tangerinish...you can see it on the north side of the highway. About 4 km toward Guerrero Negro. From the looks of things it isn't going to be a "barracks" it might end up a medium-end hotel. Have to wait and see if they erect a 3-meter wall around the place. The obligatory entrance "arch" is in place. If things work out, it may be an optional place to "hole-up" for the night. Easier than driving into Guerrero.

Martitas Restaurant at the north end of town on the east side of the highway and the Restaurant at Hotel Kadekaman at the south end of town on the west side of the highway are both quite good in our opinion. However, they are not cheap and they can be VERY slow which is not a problem unless you are in a hurry.

Also, for a quick meal, that is good and inexpensive, we like the chicken rotisserie place and I do not remember the name! But it is on the west side of the highway toward the south end of town on the west side of the highway. There is a big tall smoke stack that is easy to spot.

Dah-veed... help me visualize where, please...

You say west of Vizcaino (which would be on the Tortugas/ Asuncion highway), north side of hwy.... okay got it... Then you add "4 km. towards Guerrero Negro"? Is this on Hwy. 1 afterall?

I do realize the 'northbound' Hwy. 1 from Vizcaino does go north-west to Guerrero Negro.

David K- As you are headed south on Hwy One, on the left hand side of the road about a half mile from the first Pemex.

We like the loncheria across from the above mentioned Pemex for a quick bite....great tortas.

Mesquite roasted chicken. 1/2 chicken meals to go as I am headed to a race...doesn't get better!

We often eat in the restaurant that is beside the grocery store Sotres...excellent food at great prices and they always have pots of stews ready if you are in a hurry....big menu so lots of choices and very very clean and friendly...our favorite restaurant....sorry I dont know the name of it but it's beside the parking lot for the grocery store on the left side southbound kind of across from the second hand stalls.

also like Zac said, the torta place across from Pemex is excellent too.

For breakfast Gueros across the street from the Pemex next door to Telcel store. He prepares cabeza the night before then sells it out of a modest taco wagon. He's usually sold out by 10 am, Delicioso.
Lunch, Poblanos, half way through town west side of hwy. Mixo tacos to write home about.:yes:

Here I always though Mex 1, the transpenisula hwy ran E.S.E. - W.N.W. through this area. The tortugas road is to the south west and if you want to go to La Sierra de San Francisco or toward Los Arcos you went north.

Unless you have helicopter or mula, heading toward Guerrero from Vizcaino stating "On The north Side" of the highway does not create a lot of doubt. Maybe I should have written "On A Heading Of 349 degrees true north". That would of made it simpler...

Thanks Dah-veed, but Zac got the answer out.

The Baja Highway is a North-South corridor, and even in El Rosario where the highway south to La Paz goes northeast between Mama's and the bridge, people will describe a place in town along it as being 'south' from Mama's... as in southbound.

The map is tilted to fit on the paper, so north is to the upper right (the state border is on an east-west line of latitude). Guerrero Negro is well north of Vizcaino (as well as well west of it), but Bahia Tortugas is pretty close to straight west from Vizcaino... and since you have been living out that way, I figured you meant west on the road you take. All is well on the western front, verdad?

Gee. Vizcaino will become a tourist destination before we know.

Sorry for a tad of sarcasm, but, unless there are unplanned delays in either direction, Vizcaino has always been more or less a stop for gas.

The orientation of that map is skewed. Turn it 90 degrees more, and up would be down. La gente Vizcainados use Norte y Sur so I thought it to be appropriate to follow suit.

Stuff you might not know about Vizcaino

East of town (towards the Gulf of California, for David K) 12 km is the turnoff onto a gravel road (toward the south San Lucas) that leads to a gate for the caracol dairy. A guard shack. Tell them you wish to purchase in the "almacen". Hours-old bottled milk with a expiration date to the max. Same with the yogurt, cheeses, etc.

At a little known decrepit carneceria they sell beef from Caracol cows. Every bit as good as Costco beef at a fraction of the cost.

During the appropriate season , vendors sell fruit and produce out of the back of pickup trucks that just beat the hell out of supermarket stuff for quality and price. I just purchased 2.4 kg of pitahayas for 35 pesos.

Just do not make a left in town off the main boulevard except if there is a designated left turn lane. It is illegal. Like in the rest of Mexico, dogleg off onto the parallel, go down to the next intersection wait for the light and traffic both directions then make a left.
