I use only Pesos exchanged here in San Francisco beforehand.

Have a small amount of pesos with you (useually left over from previous trips) and go to an ATM once you are in Baja. With some bank affiliations such
as bank of America you don't pay much, or none, in service charges.

I haven't heard of new restrictions on exchange in Mexico, but possible. You can go to cambio a few times then. ATM usually have their own limits,
and always had.
If convenience is the priority and you don't exchange much, buy pesos NOB. If you shop around, you will find exchange rate same as in Mex or even

San Ysidro, last US exit, 1 1/2 blk. to the right, a
Mex Ins kiosk/cambio, keep $ in a couple places in
vehicle where checkpoint guys won't stumble

If your in Chula Vista the WalMart on Broadway has a cambio window with good rates. I see Mexican Nationals using it to change their pesos for $bajagrouper - 10-26-2013 at 05:21 PM

I never bother. My credit union reimburses ATM fees, so I just use ATMs. Occasionally I'll change dollars in Tijuana, where the rates are best.
