TV Antennas

tjsue - 10-28-2013 at 10:53 AM

I'm in Tijuana, (Colonia Independencia) and have a 32" Vizio HDTV.

I'd like to watch the local San Diego channels, and have been told that there's an antenna that will pick them up? I wouldn't know what to buy, and don't want to if it's not going to work.
I'd like to avoid paying for DISH Network and cable if at all possible.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

I once had a large Radio Shack rooftop antenna [17 feet long] down here and I got a pile of US stations, even one from Santa Barbra.
This was before the signals were changed to digital and a convertor box was required.
Better look into that, Sue. Radio Shack can fill you in.

if you have a good look north from your place, just hit radio shack for a double bowtie antenna, about 15 bucks, and you should be golden!

Thanks, I'll hit a Radio Shack store as soon as I get a chance, and see what they have offer.

A combination VHF/UHF roof top antenna works best. Remember San Diego is a mix of VHF and UHF stations. KFMB ch8 and KGTV ch10 are on ch 8 and 10 digital. The others are all UHF channels, including XETV ch6. For an indoor antenna I found the RCA amplified antenna worked better than others I tested. Indoor antennas are often iffy especially on VHF digital signals. They work best near a window looking toward the transmitter site.

I have no idea which of my windows look toward the transmitter site.

That might be my kitchen window, and the TV is in the living room. I'll check with my neighbor's husband, he might know.
