Baja Almanac

TimeTraveler - 10-29-2013 at 08:41 PM

So last week my Baja Almanac disappeared... I didn't consider that it would be a "high profile" item until I got home and tried to replace it.

Anyone know where I can find one at a reasonable price?

Thanks!

I found that they were sold out on baja almanacs website so I contacted the owner and he emailed me back telling me I could find a copy at http://www.discoverbaja.com/ so I called them and told them the owner sent me and they sold me a copy at the member price. this was within the past 3 months. give them a call. a nice girl by the name of Monica helped me out.

I bought a new Baja Almanac there a couple months back while I was picking up a new Mexican fishing license from them. I live nearby so I can just drop in. It's a nice little shop.

Deanfootlong- You must have a more charming personality then me lol... I was told that I have to be a member to buy one from them...

Its only 40 bucks a year so I guess its not the worst thing... Anyone else a member of Discover Baja? Worth it?

Thanks,

Belonging to Discover Baja depends on what you expect from them, kind of like belonging to AARP. They sell books and maps etc. at a discount. You can get your Baja auto insurance thru them. They have a newsletter that has good info about Baja and some mainland areas. They put together road trips for members. They have guest speakers come in for a evening get together. If you have any questions about traveling to Baja they can answer them. You can get your tourist visa there paid for and all, just need to get it stamped at the border. Yes I am a member, have been for a long time.

I have one from 2011. But I'd like another one while I am down here. Where is Mama Espinoza's??

Mama Espinozas is next door to Baja Cactus in El Rosario.
Discover Baja sells books to anyone. Members get a discount. The book I coauthored is sold there.

Discover Baja is sold out... Just an FYI.

MMc - 10-30-2013 at 03:07 PM

Check with BajaJudy on this board. She's in Cabo but I am sure she can get it to you if she has them.

bryanmckenzie - 10-30-2013 at 08:59 PM

Thanks David. I shall check-in southbound.

Thanks MMC. I won't make it that far on this trip. La Pax max.

I have one available for rent...

Ateo - 10-31-2013 at 08:31 AM

Go with the laminated and bound version!!

spikemd - 10-31-2013 at 10:40 AM

I bought mine last month from DiscoverBaja without being a member. Costs like $2 more but I joined Vagabundos for my insurance and docs since they are closer to home for me.

Wow, I really like the laminated and bound copy. Did you get that done at Kinkos? I would like to get that done before heading to Baja on Saturday.

Yes. Kinkos. I recommend it.

Look what I just found ... http://bajamaps.net/ :light:

They produce this long glossy peninsula map (see images below) that I got in 2010 and further I spoke to Carlos Esparza Ramon in 2012 in Ensenada about purchasing a few more. This is a BEAUTIFUL product, about 7-feet long 16-inches wide in color with great detail (though not as much as the atlas). I never did get around to buy a few more. These maps put the AAA map to shame.

Does anyone know where I can obtain this map?

Unfortunately, the website shown returns these errors:

http://www.esparzaeditores.com.mx/ ... not found

http://www.esparzaeditores.com/

But the very top one DOES work and is from a link on the non-functioning site.

I just got an answer via e-mail from the publisher:

Hi,
You can buy the maps in any OXXO convinience stores
in Ensenada.
Thanks

Another BajaMap followup from Carlos Esparza

bryanmckenzie - 11-1-2013 at 08:02 AM

Thanks so much for your words in your post. Also available at most Ensenada 7-11 stores.

Google Earth Esparza panorama KML file

I really appreciate your comments, at the moment I'm in Cancún (on the other peninsula) mapping the Yucatán Maya Peninsula Atlas.

We are panographers (photographers in 360 ° panoramic)
THIS PAGE page you can see some examples. You can also open the archive attachment and get you to google earth
and you can view some 360° panoramas of Baja just click the red bubbles. (need to have google earth in your computer)

Will be in touch soon.

thanks again
Sincerely
