Out of honest curiosity...

Why did you elect to go to Guadalajara for the surgery?

Lee - 10-30-2013 at 01:27 PM

And.... where did you fly from? In Baja?

Dr. Cuevas isn't happy with having the stents done in La Paz or Cabo. He felt it was better to go over there, the hospital has a better cath lab..We trusted his knowledge so we went there.. It was an over night stay, they go through the wrist, unlike the groin in the states..we flew over Saturday morning with Dr. Cuevas, flew back Sunday evening..

We flew out of La Paz..Dr. Cuevas meet us at the airport..he took Rods vitals, called the hospital in Guadalajara to let them know we were on the way..once we arrived at the hospital with in 10 minutes both Dr. and Rod were gowned up and Rod was on the table..it was another 1/2 hr before they came and asked for information on Rod..Never did they ask ahead of time for payment of any kind..since then, there's been 3 others here in Los Barriles that's been over to Guadalajara with Dr. Cuevas..
Good luck

Fortunately I have never had to have any surgery but I have a friend who also went to Guadalajara with Alejandro.
He speaks excellent English.

Do you have coverage in the U.S. and what are your issues?

EnsenadaDr - 10-30-2013 at 06:52 PM

The philosophy behind this is very interesting. As you may know or may not know, Dr. Susarrey the cardiologist owns Cardiomed. That is the only facility in Ensenada that does stents and/or angioplasty. Many people like going to Velmar Hospital because they mention that the ER is much more accessible there than at Cardiomed. However, one of the cardiologists in Ensenada that sees patients there will not refer any of his patients to Cardiomed. Instead, he sends them on a 2 and a half hour trek to Mexicali for any invasive cardiovascular procedure. Why would anyone do that when time is of the essence in these procedures and opening up a blocked artery is a very time dependent factor?

In my husbands case there was NO emergency..if there had been we'd taken care of it right away. His artery was not totally blocked. It was taken care of in a reasonable time frame...again we trust our Cardiologist, we did what was needed without any type of emergency time frame..

My husband went with Dr. Cuevas to Guadalajara for surgery at Bernadette Hospital. Drs. Cuevas and Najar were in charge of his care, it was excellent.
Follow up in the states confirmed that his care was first rate. Hope we never have to go through that again, but Dr. Cuevas is who we would call.

Same doctors, same hospital that my husband went to..I agree we don't want to do that again but Dr Cuevas #1
