Mulege has 2 groups having off road races. (Due to political competition. ) the events have always been popular but are gaining in participation and spectators. In order to preserve the roads and not infringe on the ranchos the ejido has donated use of a vast area of land for a dedicated track.

For the past 5 or 6 years there have been many races in the small towns in BCS. The thing that is making a HUGE difference is communication via Facebook. FB has become the daily (read instant) "newspaper". Local events, weddings, engagements, classifieds, births etc etc are now instant news.
There is a huge community of BCS racers on facebook sharing tips, photos, items wanted, items for sale etc. There has been a community effort to assist racers in race vehicle transportation, mechanical assistance, pit support etc. None of this was possible before FB.

Going to races here is like a gigantic tailgate party, popular for the whole family. Racing in these small town events has been a great experience. People go out of their way to assist you, mechanics and parts suppliers give you discounts, with out me asking, offers of tools and services etc. They welcome all racers. I enjoy being part of the community, especially, part of the racing community.

Willy has it right except its been going on for many years. The internet has made it more visible.

Most towns Have a "club" or in the case of Mulege sounds like 2 clubs, that organize events.
