My friends and I were considering travelling down baja over the Christmas and New Years Holidays (2013-2014) to see the whales. Is this possible this
time of year? Are they around? Where?
Any info would be appreciated.

For san ignacio, check out Antonio's eco tours and Kuyima. I also believe that Teri and Gary of Ignacio Springs Inn can get you set up too.shari - 11-5-2013 at 04:08 PM
The only place you will see whales that early is in Ojo de Liebre, the lagoon by Guerrero Negro. I talked to people yesterday from there and they said
there were already a few whales at the lagoon...maybe it will be an early year.
The companies there open Dec.15th....so you can just show up and choose one.mrfatboy - 11-5-2013 at 08:07 PM

Mr Fatboy....If you can wait as long as possible, each day more whales come into the lagoon...one cool thing about early in the season is you may see
a whale in labour which is intense or maybe even a birth!!!!!
Michael...my birthday extravaganza is always alot of fun around March 2-3...maybe camp with us out at the lagoon for the full monty!mrfatboy - 11-5-2013 at 09:17 PM

Unfortunately we are tied to the dates due to work and kid school schedules otherwise I would wait. It's like herding cats TLBaja79 - 11-5-2013 at 10:54 PM
We went Jan 2013 around the 25th and they were just entering the Bay near San Carlos.
We had a great experience but sounds like a week earlier would have been minimal sightings let alone breaching, petting, etc....Mula - 11-6-2013 at 06:27 AM
Yup, December to middle of January is too early for Mag Bay.DianaT - 11-6-2013 at 08:10 AM

While we prefer to wait until they are in San Ignacio and go there, we have gone that early to Guerrero Negro/ Ojo de Liebre and saw whales.
You can stay in Guerrero Negro and it is an easy drive out to the lagoon. The road is a few miles south of Guerrero off of the main highway with a
very large sign. There you can hire one of the official guides and boats. Go in the morning.
Or if you camp, you can camp out at the lagoon. Also there are several places in Guerrero Negro where you can hire a tour guide to take you to the
lagoon, and they arrange for one of the official guides and boats.
Have fun!cabonotcho - 11-6-2013 at 08:31 AM

Another
thread headed down the political sewer? Try off-topic for this kind of garbage, unless of course you meant it as some kind of joke??
