Two Gonzaga questions

1bobo - 11-5-2013 at 04:15 PM

Is the Pemex still closed on Wednesdays?

Are there rooms for rent there (overnight)?

CortezBlue - 11-5-2013 at 05:02 PM

Not sure about Pemex as I was there on Fri Sat and Sun

Overnight Rooms, I would try Alfonsinas

Gas station is open when they feel like it. No real set hours that we could discern even when asked.
Alfonsinas has rooms for 65-75 per night. Most likely wont need reservations unless it is a race weekend.
Food is good at both Papas and Alfonsinas.
No generator at Alfonsinas now as they are rebuilding the generator building as of two weeks ago.
They have power for lighting only at this time.

Gas station open most of the time with no problems. Suggest you make res. for rooms at alfonsins as baja 1000 is coming up. PS They own the gas station also.

basautter - 11-6-2013 at 07:03 PM

(1) I agree with the comment above, the gas station is open when they want to be. I was there a few weeks ago, and they were open on Wednesday. As always in Baja, get gas when you can.

(2) Rooms are available at Alfonsina's, Sacrificio aand Papa Fernandez's. Palapas are available for rent at Rancho Grande. I recommend reservations at Alfonsina's if you are there Thursday through Saturday night.

Do you know if any of the places that rent rooms in Gonzaga Bay are dog friendly?

Grace, I would think Alfonsinas is probably pet friendly. I don't know how a dog could do any more damage

Palapas also at Campo Beluga (flush toilets and showers, too)... Just a mile+ south of Rancho Grande.

Little dogs tend to become happy meals for the 100 or so coyotes who live in the bushes about 50 yards from the cantina. Big dogs sometimes make friends with them. There are Mexican camp dogs who are the only dogs I have ever met who are born with good manners.....won't bark unless provoked, will not come into your house unless asked, happy to be petted and talked to at any time.....I think we should give them a Gingo pedigree and import them to the USA where they could run a school for the spoiled brats some of us have for a dawg.

BB:-)

David............this is one of the few places that I haven't been too on the Cortez side. My question to you : is the road going in.....does it require four wheel drive?

NO... they couldn't do much business if that was the case... Wide, flat graded road... It leaves Hwy. 5, 1.2 miles south of the Gonzaga Pemex. Signs for Beluga and Sacrificio there... Sacrificio is several miles beyond Beluga. Of course it is a dirt road and there could be soft spots or blow sand. So, don't slow down or stop on soft sand... keep your momentum up and cross through it.

im not hearing a fish report? usual suspects? :?:

mcfez - 11-8-2013 at 06:21 PM

Alfies rooms $85

Not worth it. I think greed is creeping around there.

...and yes...where is the fish report! You went down there with the group?

David K - 11-8-2013 at 06:28 PM

Deno, that is probably a Baja 1000 event price... It was $60 the last time Antonio was asked by a Nomad.

woody with a view - 11-8-2013 at 06:37 PM

we stayed in august and paid +/- $65 with all night AC. it was expensive but it was a one time thing.

dizzyspots - 11-9-2013 at 02:28 PM

Fish report: Thurs delayed to install ignition Fri usual suspsects..the yakyak2010 kids nailed something like 14 Bonito trolling between Rancho and Sacrificio...Sat fuel supply problems...found needed fittings at Barney's (Alfonsinas).. Sun played with skis and tubes...then WIND WIND WIND heck of a time getting boats out of GB and over to the inlet near Alfies for retrieval...day after we left???85 degrees and calm!! back again in the spring...also lost the white vinyl tonneau off the camper somewhere between Papa's and Cowpatty...about 4ft x 6ft x 1 ft

mcfez - 11-9-2013 at 02:34 PM

Yeah...love that wind there!
Did you ever hit that spot down by Black Mountain I told you about?

Yes David K ....the races! I forgot about that. $65 is worth it on a hot night :-)
