Lodging South aof Catavina

Looks like we may be a remote pit for the Baja 1000 down near Punta Blanca.
Does anyone know of lodging in Chapala, Punta Prieta or out on the coast?
I don't remember anything out at Santa Rosalillita.
I know the more usual options are Catavina or Bahia de los Angeles.
Thanks for any suggestions.

I think there is something in Santa Rosalillita, a small motel. Possibly a relative of Shari or Shari's husband in Asuncion.

Larry is right. With tis short notice though everything may be full everywhere so be prepared to camp jut in case. I don't know of anything in Pt. Prieta. Have fun!

Hotel Maru is a great little hotel on the beach with I think 5 rooms.It's only 10 minutes off the highway.

The phone # is 615-157-0263 in GN, they call the hotel on the radio with the reservation. Another # is 615-159-1642 or 646-162-1413. I can make you a reservation if you dont speak spanish. They are not family of ours but Juan's cousin Martin lives there and is a good contact for whatever you need.

Mauricio's restaurant in Rosarito has a motel next door. I stayed there a couple of years ago, the room was fine and at that time cost 300 pesos.

This is the small town on Hwy. 1 between Punta Prieta and Villa Jesus Maria, sometimes called Nuevo Rosarito... not to confuse with the city just south of Tijuana!

My nickname is Catfish and a group of us are heading to Baja again end of March. Highlight will be riding our dirtbikes on Bill Nichols singletrack into & out of Bay of L.A. Most of us are motelling without camping gear this trip.

I've been reading & lurking in Baja Q/A for a while & decided to register & communicate after finding this topic.

THANKS for the great info about Hotel Maru. Its only 30 miles south of Punta Maria, so we should be able to ride there by dark. :bounce:

A couple of questions;

1. Shari, is your offer to make reservations at Hotel Maru available to a wandering, Spanish-challenged Catfish? One of our group knows Spanish well (for the trip). How would be the best way to secure those reservations if making them by phone?

2. Could the Hotel or Martin arrange to provide ~20 gallons of gasoline for us the next morning?

3. Or where could we find gas, assuming we head North on hwy-1 the next morning?

We are really excited about crossing the 22-day trail and this option could make that work for us. Any other clues about the area would be great!

Gas is sold out of jerry cans at the junction to L.A. Bay and Cataviña. It may be available at other ranchos or villages (Santa Rosalillita, Punta Prieta, Rosarito?) as well. There are Pemex stations at Villa Jesus Maria, Bahia de los Angeles, Bahia San Luis Gonzaga and El Rosario (south to north).

Yeah David, I figured you would. My suggestion was sort of like an fyi to Sr. Catfish, regarding old threads and u2us for specific questions on old threads. I think you are probably the only one who reads each and every post on this board, and thus were the one to spot this question. But just in case you are not there to save the day, he should probably know to check the date on the threads or u2u. No offense.

Yes indeed, I know and I am never offended with truth, logic, or tradition, specially when I get help from pretty teachers and Baja sisters!

Thanks everyone for the welcome! I guess I should have introduced myself in a new thread. Doing google searches for unusual baja stuff kept pointing me to forums.bajanomad.com posts. I finally got the hint. I have been lurking for a while, just soaking in all this great information!

What an incredible Baja resource!

Rode the Window rock into BOLA last year. Did the 22 days the next day and because we didn't know of Lodging at the coast we took the beach roads south to villa jesus maria and went back east in to san francisquito. it made for a long day. have had friends stay at Rosarito.. on the highway, this may help if your plan is to head north from there. Otherwise the trip to san fran was fast and fun. Have a good trip, I'll be on those roads the last week of Feb and give an update.

WOW! BoLA, 22-day west, Pacific, & east to San Francisquito is a VERY LONG day & night!

Hearing about Maru, means only another 30 miles south after 22-day.

There are about 4 very basic rooms in Santa Rosalallita. It's across from the store, and run by the same people. I was there last spring, and the owners made us dinner in their house (for $). How cool is that! No frills, but very friendly people. If the surfs not up, so reservations are required. They have an email address, but I don't know what it is. Maybe someone else does?

My friend with good Spanish talked to Maru this week and we are set for rooms & dinner! YEA!!! :bounce:
