Should we?

BajaBlanca - 11-6-2013 at 09:43 AM

Someone recently posted a thread about back pain and beds which made me think about something....

Should we ask for a separate headline that reads medical issues? I fully understand that the idea here is everything Baja, but we have formed a wonderful community and someone will always have valid info. about almost any medical issue we can come up with.

Just wondering if others agree....should we?

Timo1 - 11-6-2013 at 09:48 AM

Not a bAd idea but....

Dontcha think that would take over today's posts with all the seperate maladies that we all have ???

There are medical forums for that

IMHO

willardguy - 11-6-2013 at 09:52 AM

isnt that what off-topics is for?

-----the problem with posting ANYTHING in OFF TOPIC is that few dare to go there, and those that do (including me) are suspect.

:O

I say YES...

Russ - 11-6-2013 at 02:13 PM

I vote for a separate heading regarding medical issues and help. There are a lot of old timers here and we will need info or do need help now.

bajalinda - 11-6-2013 at 02:41 PM

I think it's a good idea, Blanca. I vote yes.

Keri - 11-6-2013 at 02:44 PM

I vote yes too,k

vandenberg - 11-6-2013 at 02:52 PM

With all us old farts on this board, we could easily have an ailment discussion, which post count could rival the turtle soup one.:P:lol:
But...count me in.

BajaBlanca - 11-6-2013 at 04:04 PM

funny ! the turtle soup thread was AMAZING.

and just as amazing was the ... dare I say ..... MARLIN,MARLIN,MARLIN thread

I thought about off-topic too but I find it kinda scary. I went once and nahhhhh, not for me.

the yeah's are winning!

danaeb - 11-6-2013 at 04:09 PM

+1 Blanca. Great idea.

cabonotcho - 11-6-2013 at 04:14 PM

I fear I started the medical issues problem posting thing and for that I am vry sry but thankfully with in moments my questions were answered far and beyond expectations, still once again my sincerest of apologies.

BajaBlanca - 11-6-2013 at 04:26 PM

DONT APOLOGIZE. I have nomads to thank many times over for help in finding the optometrist in La Paz. Helped me beyond anything with the info on CPap machines. (which . Les uses and I am soooooo happy now) .

That is why I think a separate (even an off topic 2 ???) thread headline might be good.

cabonotcho, I am glad you posted and got good responses!

CortezBlue - 11-6-2013 at 06:54 PM

I'm still waiting for the Music Section to start up.

redmesa - 11-6-2013 at 06:58 PM

It seems we need a poll?

Add Healthcare, prevention & wellness vs medical issues only?

Whale-ista - 11-6-2013 at 07:47 PM

It's often said we don't have a healthcare system in the US, we have an illness management system. That's one reason it costs so much!

With that in mind, I'd support a new topic with info on ways Nomads are living a healthy lifestyle in Baja, advice on preventing health problems, and recommendations on finding healthcare providers when needed, based on your experiences.

Bajaboy - 11-6-2013 at 08:31 PM

I say no...seems like Baja Nomads is mushrooming into many topics beyond Baja. I'm sure there are plenty of other message boards to talk about health related issues, music, non Baja travel, etc.

BN is as much a social media as most others, and friends here are here to help each other.

mulegemichael - 11-7-2013 at 08:02 AM

i vote yes.

DavidE - 11-7-2013 at 08:21 AM

I tried using numerous "general health forums" to gain information that would be useful in Baja California.

It does not work at all for me and I'll tell you why...

A responder may likely recommend a medication or treatment that is not available in Mexico. In this case the word "likely" is like 99%

There are communication and payment issues that are unique.

Baja California is unique, which means it is nothing like mainland Mexico.

Medical facilities in Chula Vista and San Diego are unique. When people seek a reference on a medical site, they are guaranteed to receive either no answer or an irrelevant answer. School of hard knocks dept.

Avoiding a topic that does not interest you is so easy to do. Avoiding a topic SECTION a dedicated forum means "a non-click". You don't even have to close your eyes. How hard is that?

So the real issue should be if Señor Bajanomad Administrator wants to go through all the time and trouble to set up and maintain another forum. It may be best to label such a forum as "Baja Related Medical And Health Issues". I believe one thing for certain, such a forum would be unique.

cabonotcho - 11-7-2013 at 08:26 AM

Guys I had posted the same bed question on other sites and did not receive any feedback, here I had great responses promptly, I am a "newbie" here so I know I prob shouldnt put in my input but I must say it was a positive outcome and my wife is Mexican and I have been around Baja for close to 40 years, so if I can help be it Baja related or not I will in any respect I can -thank you and have a blessed day.

Jaybo - 11-7-2013 at 08:47 AM

I like it too. All the old folks on here and God knows ya all like to talk about your ailments :) I fear the hemorrhoid discussions though :)

DianaT - 11-7-2013 at 08:51 AM

I think having different forums for different things is a good thing. If one does not like a particular topic and uses the Today's Posts, it is easy to scroll right down and past things of no interest.

Medical issues, especially how to deal with them in Baja is important. The lack of any real medical care for potentially serious conditions in central Baja is one of the reasons we sold our place.

Information is helpful, as long as it does not turn into a long distance, and dangerous diagnosis forum.

redmesa - 11-7-2013 at 09:09 AM

I think if we can have a "Baja 'toons" forum then a "Medical Forum" which is almost guaranteed to draw postings is a no brainer.

YUP!

David K - 11-7-2013 at 04:10 PM

Blanca (and others)... There IS a forum for this suggestion thread, better than Q & A:

BajaNomad » Forum Issues, Comments, or Suggestions

http://forums.bajanomad.com/forumdisplay.php?fid=5

BajaBlanca - 11-7-2013 at 05:25 PM

good idea David, so I wrote.

vandy - 11-7-2013 at 05:38 PM

I got suckered into reading this by the vague heading.
Might wanna mention TOPIC in the topic.

But I say yea.
Like this is a democracy

Thank you- great analysis DaveE

Whale-ista - 11-7-2013 at 05:46 PM

It's been several years since I lived in Baja, but I remember healthcare was a challenge at times. Your post reminded me of a few reasons why.

I was fortunate to be referred to good doctors but as you describe, the systems are very different and there is definitely a learning curve.

For all those reasons I still vote aye on this forum idea.
