Does anyone have any advice about a company
to go to in Ensenada, rates and restrictions on
driving throughout Baja in a rental car rented in
Baja? we are trying to figure the best and least
exhaustive way to come down to Mulege area
without driving our own car in - also coming next
month - close to Christmas -
thanks for suggestionsDENNIS - 11-7-2013 at 10:34 AM
I've heard some scary numbers in regards to car rentals down here, but in Ensenada, this place is most commonly referred to. Try calling them:
Take the bus down and back. Use friends and taxi while in Mulege.DENNIS - 11-7-2013 at 11:10 AM

Good idea.
Another....buy a Baja Beater and stash it for another trip...or sell it. Beaters are in high demand down here.chuckie - 11-7-2013 at 11:20 AM
Thats why Dennis is so popular, he's a beater for sure.....johnalex - 11-7-2013 at 01:26 PM
We have had decent dealings with Fox. YMMV.
Our AMEX insurance rider covers the comp/collision.
Liability runs about $15 USD/day.
HTH.
thanks for the warnings and replies

I especially appreciate the referral to an
actual company :-) - it does sound
like a not so popular concept - where
would we buy a "beater" - someone down
there want to rent us one cheap? that could
be another possibility -
Meling Ranch, Baja About Fifteen Years Ago

We shared a table at breakfast in the ranch's mess hall with four young ladies from Germany.
Their English and hubby's German matched up pretty well, so we were able to have a lively conversation.
They had flown into San Diego, rented a Subaru sedan (if I recall correctly) and promptly headed south.
In order to drive up to Meling, they had had to ford a couple of streams with ginormous rocks left from the spring floods like we did. And, in those
days, there was no paved road after you left Mex Highway 1 and turned east.
Their trip plan was to drive to Cabo/San Jose del Cabo with many stops and side trips along the way (Hotel California?) and they intended to return
the car at the Cabo airport.
Needless to say, they didn't inform the car rental agency of their itinerary, but we know that it all worked out, because we received some emails from
them after they returned home.DENNIS - 11-7-2013 at 02:26 PM
