We had a cute little fella here today, but when we looked in all the books it seems he/she is a 'bitsa' and unable to clearly identify. About 6 inches
nose to tail.
Any comments?

It looks a bit like a Baja California Spiny Lizard (#61A in McPeak's book)...

Do you have a pic of the entire lizard? Looks very much like a Horned Lizard.

My Audubon book says that looks like a Sagebrush lizard. You could google that up to make sure.David K - 11-8-2013 at 11:43 AM

Now that I see the lizard's body and tail I'm sure this is a type of spiny lizard. Probably a Clark's Spiny Lizard. Many types of spiny lizard in
Baja, age and sex makes their appearance change.

Thanks everyone.
We think that it is most like the spiny lizard pictures. It was cute and smiley and could leap about amazingly. We found it in large empty tank
enjoying the c-ckroaches that had fallen in. Each time, we find a lizard here, it is a different type and if they change colour too, as they grow,
identification gets problematical.
Muchas Gracias.David K - 11-8-2013 at 03:12 PM
Get the book... it is one great guide to have when outdoors in Baja!
