That's it! The last of the 3 bad grades going south. legend says an old
Mexicano maintained the rocky grade for handouts and tips )

The Puertecitos to Gonzaga Bay road was where I was introduced to 'The Baja'! First time in 1965 (with mom & dad in a Jeep Wagoneer). Again in 1967,
going to L.A. Bay. When I began to drive at age 16, I went over them (in 1974) in my Myers Manx buggy, and again in '75. The last time over the
'original' Gonzaga Grades was in 1979, pre running the Baja 1000 (I was a co-driver)...
The road south of Puertecitos was really tough to drive after the Baja highway was completed, as all Gonzaga traffic came in from Hwy. 1, and the road
south of Puertecitos was no longer maintained. The photo looks like it was from this time ('76-'86).
In 1985-86, the new garded road south of Puertecitos was built and 4WD no longer was mandatory for this section. Once the 'worst road in Baja', but it
took you to the most beautiful bay... Gonzaga!
