Low Sulfur Diesel

Bridger13 - 11-13-2013 at 07:23 PM

I realize I'm beating an old post but still interested if anyone has managed to get ultra low sulfur diesel south of El Rosario? I only have a Sprinter to make the trip and it won't run for long on higher sulfur fuel. Thanks, Bridger 13

What is your planned destination?

We would like to make it to the end of the peninsula but it appears that is not possible according to some of the threads I have read. Bridger

ULSD

My 2 cent question.....Does anyone know if the diesel at the PEMEX in Jesus Maria is ULSD????

Ab out 5 years ago, my friend took a test kit along and tested the diesel at Jesus and the test showed it to be low s. He also filled a 40 gallon drum and took it with him to Los Barriles. So far, his newer Chevy truck has not DFO'ed in Baja. He has made the trip every year since then with the same results. I only know of one that took down one of the newer Chevy trucks and had to tow back to the USA because of a clogged particulate filter. He was trying to help me with a boat caught in the rising surf and his truck was he one towed back.

OK, Thanks. I usually fill up in El Rosario, then top off in Jesus Maria, do the whales in GN, top off in Jesus Maria and fill up again in El Rosario........hopefully, the ULSD mix with LSD will be OK on my filters. I also add cetane.

ULSD= <15 ppm
LSD= <500 ppm

Thanks

I think ULSD is 15 PPM.

I corrected it thanks.

It was the ulsd test kit he used, and it tested ok. I am pretty sure he has not done any more testing. He fills the drum on the way down, usually North of JM as one never knows if they will be out of fuel. My old 2003 Chevy diesel has a 56 gallon tank and likes any kind of diesel, was always nice to fill close to the border on trip back to have a tank of cheap fuel, it still saves a little as its 4$ a gallon in Temecula area.

Thanks,

I have found a few others online confirming that that station does dispence ULSD. It makes sense as its reported that BC fuel needs are sourced from NOB.
