Where (and how to get FMT for road trip

no fmt's anymore, they are called FMM's now and you can obtain after you cross at TJ, go to the right instead of the declare/ no declare line...easy $22.50.......

The office is called INM... just inside the border. FMM (Tourist Card).

Can't you get them online now?

I just got mine in Ensenada, but I read an article in The Log about 2 weeks ago that they had approved an online process.

This was apparently done to accommodate people on boats that wanted to fish but not have to check into a port.

I could be wrong, but I thought the article said the program was up and running.

1) A valid Passport is needed to get an FMM. FMM is required for travel south of the border zone or visits lasting more than 72 hours inside the border zone.

2) Tijuana is open 24/7, same as border. Other border INM offices may not be open the same as their borders.

3) A 7 day FMM is FREE, a 180 day FMM is $23 approx. (US). Not all INMs may have bank facilities to take payment.

So, anyone know the hours the bank window is open at TJ to pay the FMM fee?

Latest Nomad reports all say the INM office and payment ability is 24/7. Not sure if that is a bank teller window or just an INM official who can take the payment.

What about minors? Are passports required for children? Ours expired and we're scrambling to get them renewed in time. Just wondering. Thanks

Came thru TJ about 0700 on Sunday. No problem getting the papers and paying at the Banjercito window.

Passports are required for all.

On the San Diego Fishing Radio Show they have talked
about that, apparently there is an online fmm designed
for boaters leaving the US and fishing the Baja coast
within 12 mi. form shore, just collecting some $ from
boaters using their waters, which is totally understandable. It is not designed for land
crossings, would it suffice for land crossings? I
wouldn't use it for that. I can't figure this need for
prepaid/online fmm, tourist card's. Unless your
crossing at an odd hr., I've never had a problem getting
an fmm. As for the strict Passport requirement for
getting an fmm from Mex Imm, they have in the past
accepted the passport card, $40 dlls or so, although
there is nothing to show they still do

Yes, each person has to have an FMM (if you're getting FMMs). Your bigger problem will be getting to the office—one adult and a kid is pretty much an automatic detour to secondary land (even southbound), and then there's the fun of going back north with no passport.

My eyebrows raise as the thought of immigration issuing "Go To Go" permits online for land travel, by US Mail. With a boat's tripulation papers, maybe but an FMM is not valid until INM stamps it and writes in the number of days granted.

Online tourists permits are mentioned here from Latitude 38 (sailors rag) for the Baja HaHa:

Arriving by boat is a different situation than by land. In times past, Ensenada immigration would fine you or send you back to SY rather than issue the tourist permit.

Eyebrows aside, this online marine/fmm has been
up for 4 weeks, maybe. Does depart from the regular
fmm process. To state the obvious, it has no Mex Imm
stamp, or signature, currently for one entry ( as MOST
of us know the regular fmm is also for one entry), I
believe a Passport is currently required but the Fishing
reps from the US are trying to get mulitiple entries
along with just an ID, like a DL. I think it is the cost of
a traditional fmm, the primary target is private boaters
along with I assume Sportfishing boats fishing the
Baja coast, not sure how far so., 12 mi from the Mex
coast, long range boats aren't required nor trailered
boats launched in Mex

As for the San Ysidro crossing, I had asked in another post whether folks were able to pay the IMM officer instead of going to the bank. That is because we have been able to do that on our two most recent trips (April and Three weeks ago.)

The whole idea of having to go to the bank is somewhat anachronistic. Similar to the days when all restaurant waiters were men, but all restaurants had women at the cash registers.
