Satsuma time - salsa recipe

Santiago - 11-24-2013 at 09:02 AM

I think I have posted this before but had to again; it's Mandarin Festival time in NorCal and we always make this salsa in the fall when the Satsumas are picked.

Mandarin Salsa with Avocado
Ingredients
6 Medium to large Satsuma Mandarins
2 Roma Tomatoes
1 avocado
2 jalapenos
2 cloves of garlic
Juice of 1 lime
½ teaspoon cayenne pepper
½ teaspoon cumin
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons sugar
Instructions:
Peel and segment mandarins. Finely chop mandarins, tomatoes, avocado, peppers, and garlic. Add lime juiced and seasonings, stir.

Man, that sounds interesting! I imagine there is a bit of heat to it, since the jalapenos arent seeded and a half teaspoon of cayenne is not a small amount in that quantity of ingredients.

I'll have to see if anyone is growing tangerines around me. That's probably as close as I am going to get.

After you've had Satsuma all other tangerines taste like water.

In deference to SWMBO, I make it with only one seeded pepper and it's too whimpy in my view.

Yeah, living in Mexico is all about compromises.
