Circle K mini marts come to Baja

durrelllrobert - 12-6-2013 at 10:17 AM

If you come from California you are familiar with the circle K brand and now they are going to put 50 of them in Baja to compete with OXXO and 7 - 11. The first one is close to opening at the new PEMEX, at the site of the old Joker hotel in Ensenada.
It's a huge facility compared to OXXOOs and is going to have some kind of drive thru (bank?).

Will THEY carry Pepsi ....:biggrin:

Circle K

bajaguy - 12-6-2013 at 10:25 AM

In California they had great coffee, wonder if it will continue in Baja??

Two other locations in Ensenada are across from the Las Rosas hotel on the main highway before you get into town and on Pedro Loyola, west of Reforma, both have spaces for other businesses.

The sign also says "SUBWAY." I don't really think you'll be able to get on a subway there, but will probably be able to buy a meatball sandwich. [maybe]
It's not the first SUBWAY in Ensenada and I've heard the only thing there that resembles the SUBWAY shops NOB is the sign.

Another huge step backwards for mankind.

bajaguy - 12-6-2013 at 11:51 AM

THE big Pemex just before Tecate has been a Circle K for as long as I can remember .
Isn't Circle K backed by the Korean Bank.

TMW - 12-7-2013 at 11:26 AM

I believe the PEMEX on the east side of Tecate before the Garita turn is also a Circle K.

I miss the AM/PM in San Felipe and the one in Ensenada south of the Riviera Cultural Center. They had great egg/bacon or ham sandwiches for breakfast and hamburgers and hotdogs with all the fresh goodies to put on it. Now they are 7/11s stores and microwave crap.

am/pm, the pinnacle of gourmet dining! do they cater too?

Ateo - 12-7-2013 at 11:51 AM

Call me when they open an In-N-Out.

Thinking of fast-growing franchise places.

A favorite fast-food place is Subway. Great easy snack to eat-on-the-go when needed.

But...can't remember seeing any in Baja. Do they exist somewhere in TJ, Ensenada, or ?

New Circle K PEMEX where the Joker Hotel used to be located, on Reforma across from the Army Base.........

Gracias on those Subway locations, Doug and bajaguy. I'll put them in my travel book for future trips. Kinda wondering why I missed them?

bajaguy - 12-7-2013 at 12:43 PM

The one in the Wal-Mart Plaza is hard to find and I don't think they have a sign on the highway. The one at the new Circle K/PEMEX is not open yet but the sign is up....looks like it will be a drive through

Like I mentioned....they aren't what you would expect, so be prepared for something different. Not better...not worse....just different.

Subway La Paz 4-5 very similiar to the US thats my take.

The Subway in Rosarito

Gypsy Jan - 12-7-2013 at 01:09 PM

Is on the main drag, Benito Juarez Blvd., on the ocean side of the road, facing the intersection with the big McDonald's kitty-corner across the street.

Haven't tried anything at Subway because of our mind set - if you want something cheap and and good-to-great, there are so many taco stands around that we'll never be able to try them all.

Pompano - 12-7-2013 at 01:17 PM

Subs!

I'll be sure to stop. I'll order my usual. Being in somewhat of a rut, I know my sammy by heart and can rattle off my order muy pronto...

Hello Miss.....I'll have a footlong Black Forest Ham, toasted Italian herbs & cheese bread, all the veggies except green peppers (...burps), provolone cheese, & sweet onion sauce. No drink or chips, I have my own. Please make it to go.

Thanks. Do I look fat to you?

Now You Have Done It!

I am going to break one of my pompous rules, "No eating at a Mexico version of a U.S. chain."

Looking forward to trying the Pompano special - drool, slobber, drool - oh my gosh, I am reacting just like one of our dogs.

Subs

bajaguy - 12-7-2013 at 01:45 PM

Since this thread has gone somewhat sideways.......

If you live near a Jimmy Johns you know what a real sub should be......put's Subway or any other sub to shame.....except maybe a Which Wich

My apologies to the OP for the sidetrack from Circle K marts.

Got to ask. I 'think' I went by a Jimmy Johns once or twice...somewhere out there..

I can only narrow down the location as to between Cabo and Fargo. Is there one on the Oregon Coast, per chance?

bajaguy - 12-7-2013 at 02:22 PM

Very impressive footprints (sites) for the Circle K/Pemex co-brand. Money is being invested and results will speak for themselves. I passed two on the way south two days ago, and yes I will stop at them. Easy In and parking. I know change is tough but I hope the new investment in these communities will be worth it over time. For me, I think new competition and what it spurs will increase the opportunies for all. However, the best development is that it may jumpstart some local innovation.
