Hello....can someone please ID this bird for me? We saw plenty of them while in Lopez Mateos. Must be a scavenger as there were plenty of vultures
around as well.

Yes, these are Crested Caracaras. They often scavenge with the Turkey Vultures.Barbareno - 12-8-2013 at 08:53 AM
Thank you very much. Now I will sound like I know what I am talking about in my blog. Osprey - 12-8-2013 at 09:10 AM
In Baja the birds are known as GELELE (maybe even better for your blog)mulegemichael - 12-8-2013 at 09:27 AM
in texas the ranchers kill them as they peck the eyes out of newborn calves...too bad.Barbareno - 12-8-2013 at 09:44 AM
Looks like it's also called a Mexican Eagle.DianaT - 12-8-2013 at 09:47 AM

Ick --- that sounds awful! Normally I love the scavengers because they do a great job of cleaning things up.woody with a view - 12-8-2013 at 09:47 AM
how's the tin soldier doing?elgatoloco - 12-8-2013 at 10:09 AM
I read about an observed behavior where they will harass a turkey vulture to the point that they regurgitate and Caracara has an instant meal. That to
me that epitomizes 'scavenging' for food
Nice bird.Osprey - 12-8-2013 at 10:57 AM
My first wife used to do that.Osprey - 12-8-2013 at 11:00 AM
Okay, okay, it was for money, not food.Barbareno - 12-8-2013 at 11:35 AM
Woody the tin man is doing fine. Caught lots of little bass in Lopez Mateos. can't wait to head back down. Boat and motor works good. Now if I can
only back up with a trailer.
