A quick Google search provides plenty of references:

The next morning there were 20 Pangas each with 3 to 4 fisherman, tied up at the point of Gonzaga bays north side, off Cactus Point, about a mile from Alfonsina's and 2 miles from Punta Willard, known to be a good fishing spot for grouper and totoaba.

I was asking the OP or anyone who could relate the gringo name to a map name... Just like if someone asks me where is Shell Island... no mystery... unlike the Seven Sisters (which are absolutely no mystery), but all gringo names, none-the-less.

The MexFish link says 1 mile from Alfonsina's, but 2 miles from Willard Point... so I am guessing it is on the island?

freediverbrian - 12-9-2013 at 08:22 AM

It is the south point of isla willard locally known as cactus point. And yes the used to bee a big cactus on the point but died. Back to the question

chuckie - 12-9-2013 at 08:33 AM

Its the one with the grounded boat on it....

Thank you!

Okay, now we can visualize that outreaching arm of Isla San Luis Gonzaga (Isla Willard)... the island that the sand isthmus at Alfonsina's connects to at low tide, (and has for over 60 years despite 'climate change'). There was a navigation light out there, I recall...

Was there a boat grounding? Possibly a "mother ship"?

freediverbrian - 12-9-2013 at 07:55 PM

Yes there was light on the "cactus point" and a shrimp boat went a shore on the point in the 70s a wreck that is gone now . If a Baja expert DK dose not know about it it dose not exist. Troll food , eat it up

David K - 12-9-2013 at 08:20 PM

There is a lot more Baja I will not know of, than ever know of, in one lifetime. That is why Baja is a magic and special place...

went to gonzaga over new years and found the ship wreck at the infamous cactus point ( in the background in next post) the boat grounded on cactus point, days later it was towed to the beach by the rancho grande palapas and tried to re float, with no luck it was then salvaged. it is a 45 ft fiberglass hull , wont be there long the winter winds will take it away.

A cactus point is called a spine. Look for Point Spine or punto de espina dorsal in spanish. :?:

25' 30' max

and that boat had the gunwales sawzalled out.

treuboff - 1-13-2014 at 11:21 PM

Yes there is a light on the point. Pretty good diving there. Big trigger fish there. Small yellow tail around the point north towards Papa F.
